"Your political allegiance does not absolve you of moral responsibility. You do not get to set aside your conscience during an election and retrieve it afterward."
I have been holding my tongue about something that happened during the Ohio gubernatorial race. I refused to speak while the election was underway because I did not want my words mistaken for an attempt to influence anyone’s vote.
But now that the election is over, I have something to say.
For nearly twenty years, my ministry has taken me among the homeless, the abused, the exploited, and the forgotten. I have sat with victims of sexual violence and witnessed the lifelong wounds of childhood trauma.
What Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign did to Amy Acton was among the most morally repulsive things I have witnessed in American politics.
They took a woman whose stepfather was indicted for raping her when she was twelve years old and featured her mother, from whom she had been estranged for nearly fifty years, in a political advertisement attacking her credibility.
The advertisement challenged Acton’s account of her childhood without mentioning the sexual abuse allegations or the circumstances of that estrangement. When people expressed their horror, the campaign defended it.
Imagine examining another person’s childhood suffering and fractured family relationships, then deciding those wounds might help win an election.
Anyone who has worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse understands the painful realities of denial, betrayal, shame, and estrangement. A child growing into a successful adult does not erase what happened. Nor does a parent’s denial make that suffering disappear.
I find it equally disturbing that an elderly mother, whom Acton herself described as unwell, was brought into this spectacle. Whatever her own struggles or responsibility for the past, exploiting that fractured relationship was grotesque.
To everyone who defended this, consider the message you sent to survivors. To the young woman whose family refuses to believe her. To the man who has carried the shame of childhood abuse for forty years. To the frightened child who has yet to tell anyone.
What did you teach them about the value of their suffering?
I am a priest. I believe in repentance, forgiveness, and redemption. But none of those things requires me to pretend that deliberate cruelty is anything less than a grave moral failure.
Your political allegiance does not absolve you of moral responsibility. You do not get to set aside your conscience during an election and retrieve it afterward.
If your loyalty requires you to defend the exploitation of a childhood sexual abuse survivor, your loyalty has become an idol. And if your conscience cannot recognize the wrong here, examine what political tribalism has done to it.
This is not about Republicans or Democrats. We have a choice as a people: continue excusing cruelty from our preferred political camp, or summon the courage to condemn it wherever it appears.
Amy Acton deserved better. Every survivor who watched this unfold deserved better.
And God help us if we have reached the point where winning an election matters more than protecting the dignity of a wounded human being.

The Padres still owe Manny Machado $223 million. This year, Machado had a lower batting average than Pete Gray did in 1945, despite Gray having only one arm...

Yesterday Trump repeatedly called Abdul El-Sayed a "jihadist", told Nicki Minaj she had a "beautiful ass" and asked her to stand up so the crowd could admire it, and yet the dumbest people on Twitter are still pretending to be offended by a mention of the Cheesecake Factory.

I believe this will be considered one of the most important videos in US history from this time.

I want to meet the Republican political strategist who got all the important people in Washington together a few weeks ago and said okay everybody we're just going to send him out there to hallucinate in public, tell racist jokes, and talk about how hot he thinks certain guys are
"Gay dementia" lololol
"In multiple rallies, Trump has gone on and on about the relative hotness of male politicians, soldiers, and even protesters. As a result, people on the internet have diagnosed him with a novel medical condition: gay dementia." From @helenlewis:

Joe Kelly just dropped an anti-cap truth bomb:
Even if a salary cap meant every team could only offer Shohei Ohtani $10M, he’d still pick the Dodgers over Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, or Minnesota every single time.
Why? Because nobody’s Googling “best places to visit in America” and landing on those cities. Destination + winning culture still wins when the max money is the same for everyone.
A cap doesn’t create parity. It just makes the desirable spots even more dominant.
The Dodgers would love a salary cap.

No. We have 50 states where they go off to school and never come back. #GunSafetyNow
Trump: "We have 5 states where your child goes off to school as Tim and comes back as Tammy 3 or 4 days later. It's true. And teachers make a decision. 'Goodbye Timmy I love you so much, I'll see you later.' And you say, 'Where's my son? My son is in the hospital.' Can you imagine? They don't even need approval"

The Dodgers spoiled us. I love them for that. They can never take that away.
*goes back to crying in the fetal position*
I can't believe people actually voted for this demented idiot.
Trump does an incoherent ramble as a confused audience listens in complete silence:
"And you know what they're doing? They go straight down, you know, you can make those drill bits talk. You can make 'em sing, you can make them go, they go down. New York's over here, Pennsylvania-- they go down and they take a sharp left. And they suck our oil out. Can you believe it? Lines of different states, and you'll see one has Cadillacs, because they like Cadillacs better than they like Mercedes, but one has an Escalade, and one has a 50 year old Chevy. And you're talking about 3 ft. It's a line that goes right up. One has some beautiful drilling plants, and one has no drilling plants, it's got no money, it's got poverty."

The MVP of the NLDS for the Dodgers: Dave Roberts.
- Put Kiké in against Sale, who delivered a clutch two-run shot.
- Moved Ohtani down the order to let him see more pitches before batting.
- Got the Dodgers to battle in Game 3 vs. Sale
- Made perfect bullpen moves and gave the high-leverage arms a vote of confidence.
What a series from Roberts.

So one out of the top 5 teams left spends money, and apparently that means we need a salary cap?

He got it from his mama.
Bear 89, aka Backpack, is the 2026 Fat Bear Week champ. Turns out hefty runs in the family.
His mom, Holly the Duchess of Density, won in 2019. She carried him on her back as a cub and helped him survive a serious leg injury. Now her little Backpack has a crown of his own. 👑
