I wrote about my grandmother, Chien-Shiung Wu — a pioneering nuclear physicist who’s on a 2021 USPS stamp — but also about loss, immigrants, fame, scientific ambition, women in STEM, and the questions we have about our families that are too late to ask. washingtonpost.com/lifestyle…

i feel bad for people who meet her in the movie and thus can't appreciate how funny it is that she's just not doing the voice anymore

the random woman who goes toe-to-toe with Conan, one of the great comedic riffers of all-time, in the final :30 of this is one of the most impressive things i've seen in a long time

We went to see ballet today and the girl next to us brought a 24-piece ferrero rocher box and unwrapped each piece before the performance started and ate all of them before the first interval. She made absolutely no noise. Pure class. I hope you had a wonderful time, diva.

The curse of living in New York is that your idea of a normal dinner time gets totally warped and you end up starving after 10pm everywhere else you go in the world (except for Spain)

Forgot I bought a ticket for a 'baby screening' for YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING at @alamodrafthouse this morning and I'm surrounded by screaming babies who are all about to experience a Nathan Fielder movie and I think he would approve of this method of viewing somehow

We mourn the loss of our brilliant, beloved colleague Ann Hornaday, longtime film critic for The Washington Post and author of “Talking Pictures: How to Watch Movies” and an upcoming book on ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN. A gift of a critic, writer and friend. washingtonpost.com/obituarie…

“Of all artistic mediums,” she wrote in 2022, “cinema occupies the trickiest space between fabrication and reality, exploiting the porous nature of both to become a third thing entirely: the distortion of the literal truth that becomes internalized as consensus history”
Ann Hornaday, who championed the craft of filmmaking and helped readers understand the enduring magic and occasional disappointment of movies as The Post’s longtime chief film critic, died Oct. 18 at her home in Baltimore. She was 66. wapo.st/3U94l97

Ann Hornaday was a stylish and fearless film critic who taught me a lot about what the job should be. News of her death is gutting. I was honored to edit Ann in May on a piece about ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, her obsession. She was finishing a book on it. latimes.com/entertainment-ar…

Very sad to learn about the passing of Ann Hornaday, a stellar critic & warm-hearted colleague. Friendly to all, curious & insightful, with an accessible style rare among her peers. Will miss seeing her at Cannes and other places. The movies will her, too. indiewire.com/news/obituary/…

Ann Hornaday was a beautiful writer and an accessible one. She connected with readers every time she reviewed a movie. She loved a political documentary as much as a rom com. Ann's cancer was brutal and I'm glad she's no longer in pain. But I will miss her forever. I loved her.

Thinking about all the family, friends, and colleagues who loved Ann Hornaday. She was The Washington Post’s longtime film critic, but she was also generous and funny and kind and would send random notes praising your work and sign them, “Your fan, always.” 1/2

When she got sick, right after taking the buyout, she called because she knew I was going to film festivals and didn’t want me to worry about keeping anything secret from her friends. So, please, talk about Ann. Share your stories. 2/

This is all so incredibly sad and unfair. She was determined not to let brain cancer define her, and was pushing to finish her book on “All the President’s Men.” It’s so amazing, and such a testament to Ann, to learn that she did. ❤️ washingtonpost.com/obituarie…

It’s not lost on me that rape culture reports are coming from elite universities: Cornell, UChicago, Columbia. I went to Yale. These places aren’t associated with frat culture, but they come with a baked-in sense of superiority, esp for young men as future masters of the universe

Was at art supplies store in Brooklyn and this guy was buying poster board and tons of heart stickers. It’s his 1yr anniversary with his gf & he’s making a collage of their time together & is gonna tell her to look at her window as she leaves for work. Gen Z is going to be ok

It was so sweet and romantic, the cashier and I both forgot what we were doing when he told us his plans. He’d also bought ragged-edged sketch paper, a metal stamp engraved with a heart, and red wax. Said he was going to use it to seal a letter
