Man United's sporting management lurching chaotically from coach to coach, having no contingency plan, no squad foresight, no overarching idea and targeting managers with entirely different ideals of playing makes more sense when you consider they may not be the best in class.
Michael Carrick will be given more time to turn Manchester United's fortunes around after a meeting of the club's hierarchy on Monday.
Carrick's position as head coach appeared under serious threat following Sunday's 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, a result which left United 16th and without a win in their last eight matches in all competitions.
However, following talks on Monday between the club's senior leadership figures, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, the decision has been made to give Carrick and the players more time.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe might be regarded as a genius in his field of petrochemicals but as co-owner of Man Utd, he leads a clueless cabal, in a state of perma-crisis, torching the reputations of everyone they have touched, writes @oliverbrown_tel

United would have turned someone who’s become the best player in Europe and who seems a top bloke into a lazy fuck who scores 9 (mainly penalties) a season, goes on the piss after home defeats and leaks dressing room stuff to the papers.

Understand that Pierre Sage will take charge of Crystal Palace’s games against Fulham and Tottenham this week but is expected be sacked if they lose against Spurs on Saturday. Told that a couple of leading players in squad have sent messages of support to the Frenchman

So Michael Carrick stays for now, according to reports. Good – because he cares deeply about the Club and, whatever his limitations as a manager, Carrick is not the real problem at United. The problem patently lies in recruitment/ownership. Recruitment needs addressing with a clear-out and proper investment in players with the right character as well as the right ability (and in the right positions, starting with defence).
But the concerns are obvious. Will the players who doubt him raise their game? What will happen if they surrender again, this time at Chelsea? Will Bruno Fernandes start or remain captain? Is it also simply a case of the club playing for time while they pursue potential successors?
It seems an uneasy truce, a temporary ceasefire. Let's hope the players, whatever they think of Carrick, look in the mirror, realise they are very much part of the problem, take responsibility and fight for the cause. United players owe it to the fans. #MUFC

I’m fully behind the idea of Kieran McKenna being the next United manager. @AlexComber_ goes through a lot of why he’d be good below in this article. #MUFC
Wrote about the potential idea of Kieran McKenna and Manchester United in January. While I don't think they'll go from Carrick to him, can still see this happening in the near future. Perhaps a Howe or Conte to steady the ship first?

Manchester United are aware they would need to pay Newcastle United around £3m to appoint Eddie Howe, with the compensation fee not seen as an issue as the club assesses their managerial options, @TEAMtalk understands.
