One of the expected functions of a PR firm is nominating their clients for awards.
One of the concerning things I’ve noticed with the awards @Slicehc has run over the years is that most nominations come from teammates or former colleagues, not from PR firms.
We posted our 4th annual 50 Under 50 Award last week via @joinribbyn . Same pattern so far. Most nominations are still coming from peers, not agencies.
This year I will be reaching out to the honorees who received multiple nominations from their peers. I will tell them whether their PR firm nominated them or not. Most will find out it was not.
There are a lot of PR firms out there. I only highly respect a few of them. If you are evaluating your current firm or looking to make a switch, reach out and I can share the ones I respect.
PSA for PR firms: There is still time to nominate your clients. You have about two weeks left. We will not extend the deadline. Every year people ask on the last day.
If your clients are cost-conscious and always evaluating whether their agency is actually delivering, this is a low-effort, high-visibility opportunity to look like a hero instead of a zero.

(And if you’re an agency that does systematically put clients forward for relevant awards, you’re already ahead of most of the field.)

Whenever you start with “I’m not a hater” you’re a hater. What Elon and his teams continue to do is incredible.
If the others could do it, they would. They can’t because they don’t have an Elon Musk running the company. They could never attract the talent that he attracts.
I've been building something new, and today it's live: Ribbyn.
For years I've watched people earn real recognition. They make a conference list, get named by a media outlet, or win an award from a publisher in their industry. You hear about it once, you see a congrats post, and then it disappears. There's no place to see who's been recognized, by whom, or what they did next.
Over the years, @SliceofHC and different Slice of Media brands have put out awards. Recognizing great people and great companies has always mattered to me, so I built a home for it. Ribbyn is where honors live on, with real profiles, a record you can follow over time, and badges honorees are proud to share.
The first recognition on Ribbyn is the 4th annual Slice of Healthcare 50 Under 50, and nominations are open now through Nov 6th at 11:59pm EST.
Past honorees include leaders from Amazon, Providence, Biogen, athenahealth, Medidata, Doximity, Flatiron Health, Datavant, WHOOP, Withings, Hims & Hers, WeightWatchers, Abridge, OpenEvidence, Hippocratic AI, Function Health, Sword Health, Cityblock Health, Omada Health and Lux Capital, plus 115+ more.
Know someone under 50 who's moving healthcare forward? Nominate them, or yourself before it's too late: lnkd.in/ggQxARtC
If you publish a list or award of your own and want it to live on, I'd love to talk. I have lots of updates coming soon already that I know you'll love.
Also, open to all feedback and don't forget to follow @joinribbyn. Thanks in advance ya'll (I live in Texas now so I use that word)! 🤠

I just moved to Austin.
Almost 7 years ago I left Boston for St. Pete.
Two weeks ago I visited Austin for the first time.
A few hours in, I knew I wasn’t going back.
Since leaving Boston, I’ve missed the energy of a city that’s building something. The conversations. The pace. The feeling that the people around you are trying to make something happen.
St. Pete gave me space to grow a company, get acquired, and start over. I’m grateful for that.
Austin gave me that old feeling back, immediately.
Everyone always told me there is an energy to Texas and Austin that’s hard to describe. I feel it. A new fire has been lit under me.
The people. The startups. Founders and VCs making moves. Self-driving cars on the street like it’s normal (which it now is). A community that shows up. Music. Comedy. Places you can actually walk.
My wife is a UT alum. Hook ’em.
And the food. The BBQ is ridiculous. Tacos for every occasion. Grab coffee, get a taco. Grab a beer, get a taco. I’m blown away.
This city makes me want to go bigger.
If you’re in Austin and building something special, let’s grab coffee...or tacos.
I’m here.
