Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was visibly shaken after seeing Jalen Williams' injury during the Thunder-Clippers game earlier tonight. Still, SGA said that Jalen would come back better than ever. Is that statement coming from hope? Or has SGA seen something in Jalen before this that has already made him wary of his teammate's resilience? During the Thunder’s 2025 title run, Jalen Williams played the entire postseason with a completely torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. It happened on April 9 against the Suns. He got tangled with Devin Booker on a loose ball, yanked his hand free, and heard what he later described as a “paper ripping” sound. His wrist was on fire. Hours later, the medical staff confirmed the full tear. The first question that hit him was simple and brutal: "Can I still play, or did I just ruin the season?" They told him he could try. The ligament was already torn; he couldn’t make it worse. So in the days before the playoffs started, he retaught himself how to shoot. He shifted everything to fingertip touch and less full-wrist follow-through so he didn’t have to flex it the way he normally would. Catch-and-shoots became harder. The release felt slower and different. He practiced with cortisone and lidocaine, then got a lidocaine shot before every single playoff game (and sometimes during the week just to keep working on the new form). By the end of the run, he had taken roughly 28 or 29 injections in that hand. A callus formed at the site. Most of the elaborate taping stayed hidden under a sleeve, so almost no one outside the building knew how bad it was. There were stretches where it showed. Against Denver, he aggravated it and went through a rough shooting stretch that drew outside criticism. He later said the hardest part was wanting to scream that he was hurt while refusing to let it become an excuse. His mentality stayed locked on one idea: all those shots in his hand couldn’t be for nothing. They had to win. He still delivered big moments, including 40 points in Game 5 of the Finals, and the Thunder closed it out as champions. Surgery came afterward. That same approach is why the reaction to tonight’s injury against the Clippers feels familiar. Late in the fourth quarter, he went up for a dunk, got fouled by Derrick Jones Jr., and came down awkwardly on his left leg. It collapsed under him; the foot bent at an unnatural angle. He was stretchered off, still giving the crowd two thumbs up while the building chanted “J-Dub.” Shai Gilgeous-Alexander got emotional afterward. It looked significant, and the timeline is still unknown. But the version of Jalen who relearned his shot days before the playoffs, took nearly thirty injections, hid the damage, and refused to let a torn ligament become the story of a championship run is the same one who will face this recovery. The expectation inside and outside the building is straightforward: he’ll treat it the way he treats every other obstacle - focused, largely private about the details when he can be, and determined to come back ready. Of course, there is a massive difference between Jalen's old injury and the current one. But there's one thing for sure - the boy who grew up in a strict military household has shown his resilience before and will certainly show it again. Our prayers are with Jalen, his family, and his teammates! We hope his journey to recovery is short.

Jalen Williams may be out for the entire season after suffering a brutal ankle sprain. 📉 The ankle ligament bent outwards, which is a terrible sign of a multi-malleolus fracture, which could take between 6-12 months to heal. One of the worst looking injuries I have ever seen.
