So the other day the ⁦@nmrhof⁩ gave ⁦@JayHovdey⁩ and I the honor of informing Fernando Toro that he had been voted into the Hall of Fame. Jay H. told Toro he needed some photos autographed. On the photos it said Toro was in the class of 2023. Sorry, it’s dusty in here

📺On October 25, 1975, ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ aired ‘Chuckles Bites the Dust,’ one of television’s most iconic sitcom episodes. When Chuckles the Clown dies in a bizarre parade accident, Mary Richards is appalled by her coworkers’ jokes, until she attends his funeral and finds herself unable to stop laughing. The episode won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series and was ranked #1 on TV Guide’s 1997 list of the 100 Greatest TV Episodes of All Time

It’s a terribly sad day. Mike sums up how so many of us felt about Ross, an all-time great person and professional. RIP.
If there was a Mount Rushmore of ball writers, Ross Newhan would be on it. He was a giant in the biz, a Hall-of-Famer who spent much of his 43-year career covering @MLB for the LA Times. He was a mentor to myself and so many others, a friend to all. Ross died today at 89. RIP💔

Amplify Horse Racing is one of the best things happening in our sport. Great curriculum, real classrooms, 10,000+ kids reached in 2026 alone. This can work well beyond Kentucky, nationally and globally. With better funding, I think they can lift our whole industry for good.@AmplifyRacing Visit amplifyhorserscing.org to learn more.

We are making the oil oligarchs rich. We are making Trump and his cronies rich. It is literally at our expense every day. There’s no trickling down happening. And Trump is bragging about it knowing nobody in the Republican Party will stand up to him and say enough.
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Washington State Hall of Fame trainer HOWARD BELVOIR. He was 82. Howard trained fan favorites WASSERMAN, BARKLEY, and RED EYE EXPRESS, among many others notable stakes winners. Howard was a great ambassador for horse racing. He had fans by his barn all the time. He’d answer questions and let them feed peppermints and carrots to the horses. He also allowed people of all ages to “ride” Wasserman (as you can see in the picture, with Howard on the reins!) Howard is survived by his three sons: horse trainer Vann, Equibase chart caller Heath, and Clay, who works for the Boeing Company-and partner Vicki. He was a kind, soft spoken man, and a really good horseman. The american horse racing world lost a good one.

Messineo Makeover Scholarship recipients earn top placings across multiple disciplines, showcasing the talent of California’s off-track Thoroughbreds. The 2026 Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover concluded in Lexington, Kentucky, earlier this month with CARMA’s Messineo Makeover Scholarship recipients turning in a strong showing across several disciplines, highlighted by a Golden State Award victory and multiple top finishes. Classical Cat, ridden by Kiersti Wylie, led the way, earning the $5,000 Golden State Award, presented by the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC). Classical Cat also finished second in the Competitive Trail Championship and fifth in the Freestyle Championship, adding to an impressive week for the CARMA graduate. Other notable performances included St. Eligius, ridden by Liz Miller, who placed second among amateur riders in Freestyle and fifth in Ranch Work. Beach Hero, with Teegan Carthew aboard, finished sixth in the Freestyle Championship, while Pacific Tide and Allie Silvera earned sixth among amateur riders in Dressage. The younger members of Team CARMA also distinguished themselves. Prince Abama, ridden by Madison Curcie, finished fourth among junior riders in Freestyle and eighth in Dressage. Cali Bay (IRE), with Jileann Pinhero, placed fifth among junior riders in Dressage and eighth in Freestyle. Anisette, partnered with Emma Rosas and Kiersti Wylie, earned third in Freestyle Team and fourth in Competitive Trail Team.
