Sometimes I find it helpful to assume (at least for the next 10 mins) that the LLMs will tell you what the informed person will tell you not the expert who will challenge conventional wisdom. For things I am an expert on and can think creatively about, I see them make the same mistakes as those who would over-rely on consensus opinions of the well informed but non-rigorous. Currently, they can be pushed in this direction but you have to know where to push

There's a font used just about everywhere — on road signs, elevator buttons, and old computer keyboards — that has no "official" name. You've probably seen it hundreds of times without realizing. Its origins can be traced back to an obscure Wisconsin machine shop. A great blog🔻

Type annotation in Python is all of the work of writing in a statically-typed language with zero of the benefits. I really don't get it.

There ARE inter-individual differences in all sorts of traits - including immune responses - but these are best characterized at the level of the individual not at the level of groups - and given our ability to characterize individual genetics and physiology it is madness in nearly all cases to continue to use continental ancestry as the basis for scientific inquiry or medical treatment.

One low key thing people don’t know about Japan is that Indian restaurants will give you unlimited naan in cities like Tokyo and Kyoto. You can keep requesting it and they just keep bringing it out

Setting aside that this is one of those worthless interview questions that depends on the interviewee having memorized a formula… Phil Karlton famously said naming things is one of the two hardest problems in CS. Kai fails for sucking at naming.

In which a comedian accurately describes the deindustrialization of the U.S. via its global dollar structure better than most macro analysts:
👍 The most patriotic thing you can do for your country is your homework. Dying is easy. Math is hard. Give this a watch, it’s funny because it’s true.

Unfortunately the band tonight at #ASHG24 @PacBio event is not KRS-one (as I hoped) or even OneDirection (as I feared) but OneRepublic (who?)

Ok I’ll eat my words a bit…OneRepublic is not my kinda music but the less singer is obviously really talented. Enjoying the show despite my prejudices. Thanks @PacBio
