UK Pension isn't fit for purpose like EU pensions. While in the EU under a coalition government the value of a pension rose because the economy rose more than negligible inflation. @LibDems say get into the Single Market and Customs Union for a reason. Growth.
🚨 UPDATE: The boss of Labour's biggest union donor says scrapping the state pension triple lock would be "electoral suicide" "We’re the lowest in the G7 in terms of how much we spend on pensions... I cannot understand why we keep going back to pensioners"

Russia is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity by intentionally attacking civilian infrastructure – including vital energy systems – in Ukraine, an independent UN investigations panel said on Monday. cnn.com/2026/10/26/europe/un…

It has taken the UN years to acknowledge what the world has known all along: russia is deliberately terrorizing Ukrainian civilians. Now it's time to issue international arrest warrants, and bring those responsible to justice. Article unlocked nytimes.com/2026/10/26/world…

I met with the defence ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom in Paris today for talks on support for Ukraine, European defence and the conflicts in the Middle East. There is a new diplomatic push for peace in Ukraine, but Putin's actions tell a different story. In recent days, Russia has again launched heavy attacks on Kyiv and sunk civilian ships in the Black Sea. There is little hope for imminent peace in Ukraine. Our task is to help Ukraine withstand the attacks and increase the costs for Russia. This month, the EU has adopted the largest sanctions listings against Russia since the war started, and more are in the works.

I spoke with the newly elected President of Estonia. I congratulated Ülle Madise @YlleMadise on taking office. Ukraine always wishes the people of Estonia nothing but success and the achievement of all their goals. I am grateful for the much-needed and right signals – Estonia’s support in all areas will continue. Estonia is also closely following the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace. I shared details of the talks in Oslo and our communication with the American side following their meeting in Russia. There is an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting at the team level as early as November, and it is important that the meeting is not postponed. Ukraine is ready for negotiations at any time, and our position is that the sooner the talks begin, the better. Of course, like Estonia and other partners, we have always advocated for Europe’s presence in the negotiations. Europe must have a say in all formats that can deliver real decisions. We also discussed the consequences of Russian strikes, particularly on our energy infrastructure and railways. Russia is deliberately trying to destroy our locomotives, and therefore any support that helps increase our rolling stock of this type would be very helpful. Thank you, Estonia!
Had a phone call with President @ZelenskyyUa, I reassured Estonia’s firm support for #Ukraine and its people. We will keep helping Ukraine defend itself and join the #EU and #NATO. Ukraine’s security is our security and as so we can’t accept borders changed by force.

Breaking News! Code: y-Axis Alert! Yesterday's Nino 3.4 preliminary sea-surface temperature anomaly set a new record high, at 3.48°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. To clearly show this anomaly, the y-axis max was raised to 4.0°C. Attention historians: this is gobsmackingly bananas.

Ukrainian President Zelensky explains how he gave Washington three ways to end Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineries. 1. An energy truce with Moscow, wherein Russia no longer strikes Ukraine's energy infrastructure. 2. Enable Starlink access over Russian ballistic missile launch sites. The White House said Musk refuses. 3. Supply Ukraine with Patriot interceptor missiles. The United States agreed to none of them, and restricted Starlink.

“Russia invaded Ukraine, committed atrocities in the territories it occupied, and when it failed to force the government to fall or achieve its aims on the battlefield, began targeting civilians, seeking to terrorize the population into accepting Russian domination. The first Trump Administration shook off the Obama Administration’s reticence to assist and admirably sent both weapons and military trainers to help Ukraine.  After the full-scale invasion in 2022, the Biden Administration orchestrated a herculean international effort to assist Ukraine, which the Trump Administration has abandoned.”-@KoriSchake @AEI aei.org/foreign-and-defense-…

Beth Rigby, "All of the people in the Makerfield focus group voted to Leave the EU. When Burnham said it at conference I thought: Brexit betrayal. Those Leave voting parts of the country won't like this." "But you ask those people and they don't seem to mind (closer ties with the EU" Brexiter 1, "I voted to leave.. Much younger then.. Didn't understand it.. Dad told me to vote for Leave.. It's harder now.. Maybe it would be better if we went back" Brexiter 2, "Everything seemed better when we were in Europe, it just did" Brexiter 3, "I think we were over-promised things.. I think we would be much better as part of an EU.. Than on our own" Brexiter 4 says she would vote the same way because she thinks we would have to adopt the Euro - currently six EU countries do not use the Euro My view: The Makerfield focus group tells you how much the Brexit argument has changed. These were all Leave voters. Now one says she didn’t understand what she was voting for; others say life in the EU felt better, that they were promised too much, and that Britain might be better off as a member again. That doesn’t mean every one of them would vote to rejoin. It does show that the old assumption—that Leave voters would always reject closer ties with Europe—is wearing thin. Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage helped persuade people that Brexit would deliver easy gains, without being honest about the trade-offs or what leaving would mean in practice. The euro objection shows how those scare stories still shape the debate. - Six EU countries currently don’t use the euro and the UK had an opt-out when it was a member. What this shows is the need for clear information, not deception, half-truths and outright lies, shaping the conversation. Because when people are given clear accurate facts, the majority of them do not buy into populist rhetoric, so much of which is based on hate and division.

Meta's "accidental" suspension of the No Kings Instagram account — at a time when the org was posting updates from ongoing marches — was not an anomaly. I found dozens of similar instances of Meta "mistakenly" targeting left-leaning activist accounts, often during crucial election windows. My latest.

Parts from the US 70% go into the cruise missiles Russia rains on Ukrainian people
❗️“Russia produces about 140 ballistic missiles per month and has about 700 in stock,” Zelenskyy said. The President stated that most components for Russian ballistic missiles come from other countries. According to him, about 70% of the parts in each such missile are of foreign origin, particularly from countries in Asia, the USA, and Europe. “You can stop this, because these are your companies.”
