Struck by how casual liquor licensing is in Nevada. In CA, people with guns and badges show up and post big signs announcing the suspension. In NV, the business just tapes up a sign that reads something like “Sorry, no mimosas today".
Confirmed, no booze being sold or served at Oyo, Palette or Collection O. Staff is as confused as the rest of us. Rumblings are “lapsed insurance.”

Camarillo was known for those palm trees lining the highway on both entrances to town. Most were relocated to the Carmen Dr. and Central Ave. interchanges after the freeway was built.

The new campsites at Prisoners Harbor on Santa Cruz Island, part of Channel Islands National Park, await visitors. Volunteers worked for years to complete the project. See the story: bit.ly/3SCBKIE 📹 Juan Carlo/The Star

Closing just shy of the location's 40th anniversary on 8/26. Good news is temp closure is shorter than originally estimated.

For 9 years, we've done a week of exotic hot dog specials. Sales have spiked in the last two.
The humble frank has been experiencing a cultural glow-up. Some are reinventing the distinctly American fare with international flavors, while others are elevating it—sometimes quite literally—to a fine-dining level, with prices to match. 🌭 on.wsj.com/4xvomF9

Tracks. Luckily Camarillo has more Gen X than anything else. Thanks for sharing @keithrpillow

Why can’t they place the flag pole on the festival grounds? Because they need every square inch to cram more food vendors in. A record 33 food vendors this year, more than the total restaurants in Old Town (24).
What happens when you criticize how Heritage Days is run? They put a giant flag pole your parking lot, removing 20% of the parking spaces on a weekend when parking is scarce. Sad part is @CityCamarillo approved it. @DavidTennessen

Camarillo for the trifecta
every city name in California has three ways to pronounce it: (1) the Spanish way (2) the way an English speaker would pronounce it if they hadn't heard the name before (3) the way locals actually pronounce it, which is neither of the previous two. like San Rafell and Beneesha

or any restaurant that's been open for over 50 years
Ever wonder how a random retail shop that’s never busy has survived for decades? They probably own the real estate.

At least the city is replacing the old tree they ripped out with like 40 new ones.
Roger Putnam, son of the fire chief, poses in front of future Dizdar Park in 1945 near the firehouse. Sadly this tree will be removed for a parking lot. h/t @ReelReelD

Jungleland was also the home to Moses the Camel who wasn't well behaved either.
Jungleland was an animal theme park in Thousand Oaks that many still miss. Kids could get their photo taken with "tame" lions. Unfortunately, one of the cats mauled Jayne Mansfield's son Zoltan Hargitay in 1966. He had 6-hour brain surgery & almost died. The park closed in 1969.

When the graves were relocated circa 1945, many tombstones were not and disappeared. The current Dizdar Park renovation has unearthed two from the early 1900's. They will be moved to PV Historical Museum.
Replying to @jeffbrews
Stop 13 - Dizdar Park The Pleasant Valley Cemetery was built here in 1874. By 1945, the cemetery had been neglected while the town children had no park to play in. Mike Dizdar funded the relocation of graves and the construction of a new park. Park is named in his honor.

perqs of WLMA fishing badge
Some of the biggest Largemouth bass and Catfish -- well over 5 lbs. -- are caught from a bridge that spans the lake at Westlake Village. The "catch" -- you have to live in the community to fish there. All fish are catch-and-release except for Carp, considered a junk fish.

I've made this point to those who say there's not enough parking in @OldTownCam despite our central parking lot.
Great video explanation on the difference of parking at a grocery store vs at the new hot restaurant in your downtown.
