The future of gaming is a kid in a bedroom remaking the game that shaped his childhood, then shipping it to millions without asking a single suit for permission. That door is open now and it aint closing.

I humbly announce my new solo-developed game: The King's Surveyor!
A first-person exploration adventure in the King's Field tradition. You are a surveyor flung to the far edge of a valley nobody has mapped, and a long, dangerous road back home.
Built in a custom engine over the last year, this game is all about getting back to the roots that got me into gaming in the first place!
Wishlist and a repost would genuinely help a solo dev: store.steampowered.com/app/5…

Exactly! I love indie games because it's like "OMG, someone thought of this?! How cool, let's explore this person's world and creation!" Some people stare at paintings for hours interpreting this and that...that's what playing indie games is for me! ☺️

100% tbh. even one small new thing a week keeps it fun, it's months on the exact same loop when it starts to feel like a chore

Ultima VII ran in 256-color VGA, where each pixel is a palette index with no alpha channel and no hardware blending. In the early 90s they used a translucency lookup table to re-color pixels, blending them with whatever was behind something (allowing for "invisible" party members, for example). It could not do smooth, dynamic opacity on-the-fly, however. This is something we take for granted as trivial and easy. By cross-fading animation frames I blend them instead of cell-to-cell animation, making effects like ocean waves and water fountains much more smooth and organic without needing additional art.

I find that is you are going to generate a bunch of code, knowing the interfaces, structs, and functions will lead to much better outcomes.
Being the bottleneck is ok, your ideas are not that great.

This is the level I’m most proud of—it’s arguably the most challenging and visually striking in the arcade game. The main gameplay area is crafted with just 16 colours, and it turned out surprisingly well! #amiga #retrogaming
