And here it is... My first book will land in the world on November 9. I hope it lands well. I’m both nervous and excited. Writing is not easy, especially about yourself, and penning this book was certainly tough at times. But honestly… What a ride!

I’m not crazy about literary publishers having an ideological bent, but the notion that right-wing novelists & poets are automatically illegitimate is absurd—unless you think T.S. Eliot, Céline, Borges, Wallace Stevens, Nabokov, Bellow, Cormac, et al. are illegitimate.

I guess someone could make The Aeneid—the would actually be kinda rad—but I suspect Wilson would be none too happy with that one either…
Emily Wilson, whose translation of THE ODYSSEY Nolan relied on heavily while writing his adaptation, posted this disoriented critique this morning. She’s proposing a kind of anti-ODYSSEY, captained by a narrative helmsman that would steer the story even farther off course.

I finished a reread of this just today. An absolutely brutal, cutthroat novel. #crimefiction

Fudging the lines here a bit, but I stand by them… Cramer, WHAT IT TAKES Sheehan, A BRIGHT SHINING LIE Spector, EAGLE AGAINST THE SUN Catton, THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC TRILOGY

Now this is rad. "Sinatra with a cold is Picasso without paint, Ferrari without fuel — only worse."

buddy, I was writing 10 page papers without having read the book.
I was told by a 22yr old today that there was no way people were writing 10 page papers without AI.

And 62 days after that, the Soviet Union gave up.
These were all released within 57 days of each other in 1991

This is probably my favorite of Philip Caputo’s work (so far)… A great novel about a war photographer in Vietnam and Lebanon. RIP.

Very much appreciate the New York Times calling on Hasan Piker and Jia Tolentino to give me the perspective of the non-rich.

There are few redeeming qualities to this death-site, but one nice thing has been the great book rec’s. This one was absolutely beautiful:

For sale: Hot take, overcooked, stale. (Anyway... Logging off for another month or more. I'll be wherever I am, which is infinitely better than here, it seems.)

Watching this Trump UN speech, I don’t think it’s possible for a man to fellate himself more without actually removing a rib on stage…

I was today years old when I learned one Lt. William Calley (of My Lai infamy) got his ass kicked by Marines in Vietnam after he called them "soldiers." This happened just a few months before he was summoned to the U.S. to stand trial on charges of murder.
