BBC Scotland politicking using the storms is no surprise. The station has a history of politicising natural events. This summer's Cairngorms wildfire was politicised as well. The station actually assigned a political reporter to the story and sent her up to the Cairngorms.

There was a decrease of 43 in the number of deaths among males and an increase of 10 among females.
