Google heard the outcry from parents, teachers, and the US Senate, who don’t want Gemini pushed into classrooms. AI causes cognitive offloading, encourages cheating on homework, and enables the possibility of forming human-like relationships with a chatbot. So Google responded: They are going to make Gemini an “opt-in” choice for each school district. Great!
But then they attached a condition: if a school district does NOT turn on Gemini, then the students lose Google search, which is deeply woven into the fabric of education. This is coercion, not choice. Google can and should just restore what we all had before: Google search with no AI chatbot interaction or AI overviews.

Glad to have representatives from the League of Women Voters here at SJHS today to ensure our students are able to be active participants in their democracy! #vote

Two of my favorite universities for their academic and athletic excellence are Notre Dame & Michigan. I just read Michigan is going to pass/fail for liberal arts and sciences for freshman year. This is to alleviate the pressure put on students. What is happening to us? Pressure brings excellence. Don't get soft Michigan, it's not what you’re about.

I’ve been to more than 500 games at Breslin Center. And this might be the greatest moment I’ve ever seen here.
