On This Day in 1587: Mary Queen of Scots, was beheaded, aged 44, at Fotheringhay Castle. She had been imprisoned in England for 19 years and had outlived three husbands. She hadn't seen her only son James (the future king of Scotland and England) since he was 10 months old.
