Huge thanks to @senvillivalam, IHSA, the coaches, athletic directors, principals, advocates, and especially the student athletes and families who helped make this happen. These changes will create more opportunities throughout Illinois and are a real win for all.
Replying to @TrustTrost
There is nothing better than high school sports. It’s a special opportunity to play with and represent your community.
But that shouldn’t mean that it dictates what a student athlete and their family do in their free and weekend time.
Whether it’s a Sunday 5K charity race or a college recruiting event, student athletes and their families should have the freedom to decide what is best for them in their free and weekend time - especially on Sundays when school is not even open.
I am proud of everyone who worked together and very happy for 1,000s of high school student athletes, who will have access to more opportunities in the near future.
More than 1 million in viewership between TV, web and social in one hour alone this evening, and the focus is where it should always be - on the kids. #IHSA
Libby provided great testimony today in committee, especially highlighting how this bill supports girls and young women in sports!
With Representative @jyangrohr after the Illinois Right to Play Act PASSED from committee to the full House of Representatives! There's still more work to be done but this was a great first step.
Nice work on all of your advocacy, @libby_magnone. Right to Play Act, HB3037, needs everyone’s support. See below to file a witness slip as a proponent and help make this change happen for Illinois student athletes!
⚽️🚨 ILLINOIS YOUTH SPORTS LEGISLATION UPDATE 🚨⚽️

Yesterday, I learned that I made the Varsity team for @CarmelCorsairs for the very first time. I couldn't play in the last 2 years because I played in the GA Champions' Cup. Today I learned I am testifying at the Capitol in Springfield before the Illinois Education Policy Committee on WEDNESDAY about HB3037 which will let students like me play soccer for our club & our high school.
Please SUBMIT a witness slip as a PROPONENT in favor of this important law at THIS LINK: tinyurl.com/3mwwzrpd Please file witness slips by Tuesday (3/11/25)

Thanks @libby_magnone, for spreading the word. Make your voice heard on the Right to Play Act!
🧵🚨HUGE NEWS🚨 FOR ILLINOIS SOCCER PLAYERS! ⚽️Last year, I couldn't play high school soccer because my team was in the @GAcademyLeague Champions Cup and I missed the high school cutoff by 3 days. An appeal to @IHSA_IL was declined so I spent the year as team manager and missed out on H.S. soccer. I had to switch out of the Girls Academy to the ECNL to be able to accommodate High School play.
The amazing Illinois State Representative @jyangrohr saw my story and heard about other high school athletes who are prevented from the right to play high school sports because of an overlap with club sports and she has done something about it.
Representative Rohr just introduced the ILLINOIS RIGHT TO PLAY ACT.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Keep reading the thread below to find out how you can help!

House Resolution 727 celebrates these wonderful young women and encourages the entrepreneurial journey for those with developmental disabilities.
Thank you, Speaker, for hosting this lovely group in Springfield today.

Today I joined Rep. Janet Yang-Rohr in welcoming some very special entrepreneurs to the Capitol to celebrate their small business, Just A Dollup. Congratulations to Rachel Costabile, Ashley McLeod, Ruth Pligge, Bridget Brown, and Erika Kissel on their entrepreneurial journey. They are shining examples of why all people need to be given opportunities to success, especially our people with developmental disabilities. Congrats ladies!👏🏾
Here are the vote results. As my colleague Rep @Gregg4Illinois helpfully pointed out during debate, if the 118 members of the House were comprised of scientist, that board would have 114 yeas.
Congrats to Rep. @jyangrohr who advanced HB4895 to close gaps on climate change education in Illinois. We worked with Rep Yang Rohr & @StateRepKim & students & teachers to get this done! 70-37! Thanks to all the lawmakers that understand science!

#RepresentationMatters and in 2024 I’m thrilled to see the growth of the Asian American Legislative Caucus!

It's been a long time coming, but Illinois has now earned our NINTH credit rating upgrade.
Our state is back in the A's with all three agencies now — a complete turnaround from the past administration's fiscal failures.
And it means saving Illinoisans millions of dollars.
