It was a wonderful Labour Day in Vancouver with Unifor members and their families at the PNE. Thanks again to all of the volunteers that helped make it successful.

Unifor’s @Lanampayne predicted that the collective power of women, who make up the majority of the Air Canada Component of CUPE, would force @AirCanada back to the bargaining table – the only place to reach a fair deal and maintain labour peace. #flightattendants #canlab

Done deal at Air Canada: tentative agreement in place. Union says it worked through a mediator from 7 p.m. Monday to 4:23 a.m. Tuesday morning. This is their message to members. They’re going back to work. #aircanadastrike

I should add that this is not just a Liberal bias. I challenge you to find situations in which a union was pushing for imposed arbitration and employer opposed it… And a government ordered arbitration anyway, over the objection of the employer. There aren’t many, if any.
It’s an oversimplification to say binding arbitration always favors employers. Some unions have done very well through arbitration. However Liberals can be criticized for their selective intervention. The odds of them ordering arbitration skyrocket if employers want it. 1/2

Note that in #CanadaPost dispute it is the union (@cupw) proposing binding arbitration and employer saying No way, agreements must be negotiated! In #AirCanada dispute, it is the employer requesting arbitration and @cupenat saying No way, agreements must be negotiated!
