true, it's time to remove it valve
it's just a vector for abuse and no reason to single out that one toolset
Tim is right. Steam's AI disclosure rule is abhorrent.
I recently shipped an AI-assisted game, and that label doesn't help anyone pick a game. It's a target. It tells the angry mob exactly where to send the review bombs.
Nobody discloses which engine, which brushes, or which plugins they used. AI gets singled out for one reason: so devs can be punished for using it.

Replying to @mattworkman
Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.
day 43 solo building a classic-style mmo from scratch
fiddling with lighting calcs today, everything felt kinda flat in shadow and night, so a bit of a fake directional type light in the shade and dark, and a simplified SSAO style effect
more subtleties, but more control for per-zone environment feels too, this one is definitely needed to feel shape on the characters though

Steam AI disclosure is stupid and needs to go as soon as possible since the only thing it does is hurt precisely smaller studios and send them the anti AI mob, who are a bunch of losers like the anti woke mob.
a good thread of all the actual concrete reasons that the valve required AI disclosure is essentially useless
the lines are all fuzzy and will only become moreso the case
the only real function it serves is to give people something to harass devs for
wait openai can i get confirmation on this?
i want to modify my TV firmware because it's riddled with garbage software and runs like shit
will this get me banned? or not?
“While the act of creation is inherently satisfying, there’s a danger: one might find satisfaction in the labor itself and mistakenly believe that a high-quality piece of work has been created,” he said.
very insightful comment from miyamoto
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the acclaimed designer behind Super Mario and Zelda, has explained why he believes generative AI won’t make human creativity obsolete.
"There will always be a role left for us to play."

day 42 of solo building an mmo from scratch in a custom engine
busy day almost missed this one, lots of small bits and pieces, fiddling with camera position and FOV, took a bit to get it feeling correct; as well as some grass sunlight specular lighting calculation tweaks
probably on to some more worldbuilding to finish up the zone next
play here as always: azemar.kalin.games/
true, every single time
I'm old enough to remember when 'C++ slop' was the battle cry of 'real' coders.
Then it was 'Unity slop' and 'Unreal slop' from those who thought hand-rolled engines were superior in every way.
Now it's AI slop.
People draw a line on the abstraction hierarchy below which they are happy to automate the tedium. The line just moved... that's all.
Skilled people will still make superior software. We have been inundated with low quality slop since the birth of digital distribution decades ago. It's nothing new.

Since I've seen it going around I'll share the actual source of this video.
My take on it is we need to push Blizzard on fixing this "bug" very proactively. Either get it fixed or at least get them on the record acknowledging this was an intended change.
We got the woman turned back from a bowl of fruit, so there is hope here.

daily reminder of how fast computers are (well, can be in the right hands)
this is great
it's time for valve to remove this AI disclosure, it helps noone but the mob harassing people

These kind of posts are the precursor to threats, intimidation and ostracization, a soft call for others to begin the process
It's just dressed up in friendly language
Know it when you see it
This has to be one of the worst AI disclosures I've come across in the sea of AI slop this Steam Next Fest.
"I'm an Indie dev so of course I have to obviously use AI to write the code of my game....." blah blah blah 🥱
Absolute slap in the face to every other Indie Dev putting in the work and developing their games with real skill and passion.
Learn the craft like all the others have! Make something with what you know and show players you can actually build a game. Earn that respect instead of just prompting AI to generate the code for you.
If you want to use AI, fine. But don’t sit here saying “obviously” it needs to be used just because you’re an indie. Don't give Indie's a bad rep just because you're too lazy to learn the craft yourself and do the full work.
Do better.
#SteamNextFest #AISlop
the people doing it should be shamed out of the industry
