The Lord expects us to be peacemakers. Difficult as it may seem to be, we have the responsibility to pray for those who may persecute us, as Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount. We need to learn to leave judgment to Him.

I know I’m getting ahead of myself in Holy Week, but my thoughts keep returning to Gethsemane. Even the Son of God fell to the ground and said, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me.” But the cup could not pass. There was literally no other way. It had to be done. So, the Father did not remove the burden, but He sent an angel to minister to Him. And isn’t that what He so often does for us? The trial may remain, but so does the ministering strength from heaven.

The Book of Mormon-Another Testament of Jesus Christ- is a 531 page testimony of Jesus Christ. Criticizing the Book of Mormon is to criticize testifying of Jesus Christ. Its purpose is to bring people to believe in Jesus Christ. My own personal life is proof. I've heard thousands of other people testify that the Book of Mormon turned them to Jesus Christ. My good friend Al Caraway (Fox) is an excellent example. To criticize it, is to criticize this statement found within its pages: "Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning."

Nothing reinforces and sustains our efforts to have repentance as a continuous and constant part of our lives more than our privilege of taking the sacrament each week. Throughout scripture, the Savior put great emphasis on His disciples partaking of the sacred sacrament. As disciples of Jesus Christ who strive to “be perfected in him” (Moroni 10:32), we can approach the sacrament each week with a broken heart and a contrite spirit and take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, signifying that we belong to Him. As we remember Jesus Christ and His suffering, His love for us, and His willingness to take away our sins, we are filled with enormous gratitude and a desire to offer our souls to Him.

The Lord didn’t check who inside the house was worthy. He checked for blood on the doorposts. None of us is worthy. Only the blood of Jesus can cover us.

“Jesus Christ frequently expressed gratitude. Before raising Lazarus from the dead, before miraculously multiplying loaves and fishes, and before passing the cup to His disciples at the Last Supper, the Savior prayed and gave thanks to God. No wonder the Apostle Paul later declared, ‘In every thing give thanks’ (1 Thessalonians 5:18). “Over my nine and a half decades of life, I have concluded that counting our blessings is far better than recounting our problems. No matter our situation, showing gratitude for our privileges is a fast-acting and long-lasting spiritual prescription. “Does gratitude spare us from sorrow, sadness, grief, and pain? No, but it does soothe our feelings. It provides us with a greater perspective on the very purpose and joy of life.” — President @NelsonRussellM #GiveThanks Artwork: “Peace I Give unto You,” by Walter Rane

We come to church not to hide our problems but to heal them. It is not an automobile showroom—a place to put ourselves on display so that others can admire our spirituality, capacity, or prosperity. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is more like a service center, where vehicles in need of repair come for maintenance and rehabilitation. And are we not all in need of repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation? Artificial discipleship not only keeps us from seeing ourselves as who we really are, but it also prevents us from truly changing through the miracle of the Savior’s Atonement. The Savior’s Church is a place of healing, not a place of despair, judgment, or sorrow. Jesus Christ, and living His restored gospel, can make of us the genuine, spiritual being of light and truth we desire to be.
