Reading "The Dispossessed" and Le Guin is such a healing experience to read.

Interesting choice to infuse this entire article with purple prose to hush up the creeping horror and disgust of this 'relationship' because of the way so many people idolize McCarthy as a writer.
Exclusive: Augusta Britt is one of the most significant—and secret—inspirations in literary history, giving life to dozens of Cormac McCarthy’s characters across his celebrated novels and Hollywood films. For 47 years, Britt closely guarded her identity and her story—until now. 🔗: vanityfair.visitlink.me/HmC3…

"The Palace of Eros" by Caro de Robertis is easily one of the better books I've read out of the endless slough of "feminist" Greek myth retellings. I'm notoriously picky about them and it was such a breath of fresh air.

third option: teach both in equal measure because understanding communication and the influence of social media, ESPECIALLY now, is just as important as understanding why Shakespeare is relevant and important
I think it's better for students to study Shakespeare than instagram posts

fuck them for saying Shakespeare isn’t important because his work very much is but let’s be honest; the language of the text, while modern English, scares the shit out of students and the methods of teaching the work to them is often not the best

i had my students read “The Metamorphosis” at the same time as i was having my students deeply think about how social media platforms set certain trends and keep pervasive problems such as racism, misogyny and violence alive. you can and should do both.

I know everyone is talking about Matt Gaetz but please don't miss this: Georgia fired every single person on its maternal mortality review committee. Why? They didn't like that reporters found out that the state's ban killed two women propublica.org/article/georg…

little irritates me so much as being told, "it's not that deep," "why would anyone look into this media so deeply, can't it just be fun?" or "this is stupid, why write this?" especially by students.

finally getting around to reading Jesmyn Ward's "Let Us Descend." aughhhh. so good. i'm trying not to go through it too fast so i can just absorb her language.

rebuild your sense of curiosity about things. it might be a hobby, a film you've always meant to watch but never have, going out on walks and looking at the holiday decorations, sitting down at a park bench and people watching.

"Intermezzo" was my first Sally Rooney and not a great first impression, let me tell you.

A word Americans should know now more than ever: Kakistocracy- a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens. Yes, there’s a word for it.

CNN host Dana Bash’s disbelief when confronted with facts about Israel’s policies raises a critical question: If you’re informing the public, Dana, shouldn’t you start by informing yourself? If not, you are just being a mouthpiece for the genocide in Gaza. Kudos to our members Liz and Clare for making this brave confrontation happen.

that book is my literary arch-nemesis. yes i was having brain zaps from having to go off my meds cold turkey when i first read it but even if i wasn’t i’d still hate it. it’s the most blatantly manipulative, trite book i’ve read so far that has no depth beyond
