It is hard to understand why Ireland remains such an outlier in terms of school library provision. Access to a print-rich, professionally-staffed school library should be the right of every child.

So @NormaFoleyTD1 and @SimonHarrisTD why no mention of @jcsplibraries in this report? Despite evidence in reports published by the joint committee on Education that have highlighted the many advantages a school library can offer disadvantaged students. @LAIonline @SLG_LAI

If I could count the number of times I've talked to teachers who are really struggling for time or resources to prioritize literacy for those who need it. It's a whole additional job - students deserve access to a school library with a qualified librarian. #JCSP #schoollibraries
There are just 30 state-funded, professionally staffed school libraries in Ireland - under the JCSP Library Project jcsplibraries.ie / @jcsplibraries. Below are the current Oireachtas Education Committee recommendations - but no progress on their implementation to date.

Very interesting study highlighting the very poor level of school library provision in Ireland. The implementation of the Oireachtas Education Committee recommendations on school library development needs to commence immediately. The time to act is now. #SchoolLibrariesMatter
School libraries are very much the norm in most developed countries, but not so in Ireland. Why is this? New research out today from @EQI_DCU on school library provision in Irish post-primary schools. journals.library.ualberta.ca…

KCS are so excited to welcome 15 new students to our school. They come to us from a number of countries. Although not living locally, their bus will have them in everyday. We know they will be a great addition to our school and our students will make them feel welcome.🌍🌍📕💚
