“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
— J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
If you are feeling (rightly) dismayed tonight realize that this is why other things outside of politics are important (too).
Make things, create things, have families, write down your life, engage with the eternal, study your religion, hike, travel, grow, embrace the world, let your mind wonder about other things more often, grow things which are less temporal.
There is life outside of politics.
Multitasking while watching election results by looking at potential designs for my daughter’s baptism cookies (for the reception after).

Dies Irae - Sung by our incredible St. Cecilia Choir and Orchestra. This is the type of music that truly stirs the soul and moves you to realize that we live in a spiritual world.
This Requiem Mass calls for us to pray for those who are facing the judgment of God, begging for his mercy and forgiveness so that they may find rest.
I hate all these casino slop ads on TV with their QR codes hypnotizing hapless boomers addicted to gambling…banish them!
I’m LITERALLY just trying to watch election results on the news and it looks like a Vegas slot machine in here😵💫🥴

Brewers RF Sal Frelick shared a heartfelt message on Instagram today👇
“I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love with a city, until I became a Brewer. I’ve never been prouder to put a jersey on and I’ve never wanted anything more in my life than to give this fanbase a World Championship.”

Adam Robinson, whose family perished on the jet crash was active on X, like us.
Great post I found below, how he left Wall Street, to spent more time with his family.
Victims like this, deserve better, not conspiracies.
God bless him and his family.
🙏 ❤️
In my 20’s, I used to work on Wall Street.
People my age now (45) said they were working 70, 80, 90 hours a week for their families…but all their families actually wanted was their presence.
They didn’t understand why their families resented how much they worked when they lived in a nice house, and their kids went to private schools.
It was just the world we all lived in. We knew nothing else.
I decided early in my startup journey that wasn’t going to be me.
My co-founders and I have always had a policy of quitting at 5 or 5:30.
By that, I mean:
> Shut off my laptop
> No more work talk
> Go home to my family
Frequently I’m out even earlier - 3-5, depending on whether I want to do something with the kids.
I rarely travel for work and don’t entertain for work.
My family life gives me energy for my work.
My work gives me energy for my family life.
I'm trying to stay not burnt out and excited about this for several decades.
Can every founder choose this?
Maybe not everybody, but more people have the choice than realize they do.
There is great reward that comes from designing a business around the life you want.

NEW: Power outages in downtown DC are affecting stop lights and even some agencies, including the State Department. A State Department official confirms to @realDailyWire that multiple State Department facilities "are experiencing an unscheduled loss of electrical power" and the department is "investigating with PEPCO."

It is always visually stunning to see cemeteries across Poland on All Saints Day after dark lit by grave candles like this:
In this abbey in France, nuns have been restoring old books for over 70 years.
The Benedictine sisters of Maumont Abbey run a full workshop and their craft is bookbinding, gilding and restoration. Centuries-old books arrive damaged, torn and crumbling, and they restore them all by hand to last another hundred years.
