This is huge lab leak news! Any person trying to whitewash this is certifiably a sociopath a should not be entrusted with the safety of other people!
1/ NEW: In 2019, NIH lab chief Vincent Munster proposed to his postdoctoal student the idea of inserting a furin cleavage site into SARS-like spikes “to enhance infectivity,” newly obtained records show. His lab also sought and obtained unpublished SARS-related sequences for the same research project that year. Along with the rejected DEFUSE proposal, this is the second documented instance of scientists proposing to engineer a furin site into a wild bat coronavirus spike to boost infectivity in the two years before the COVID pandemic emerged. Another detailed peer-reviewed take-down of Worobey et al (2022).
Accepted manuscript titled, An Article in Science on Wet-Market Covid Origins is Unreliable, to be published in Econ Journal Watch by Michael Weissman, Professor of Physics at my undergraduate alma mater the University of Illinois in Urbana IL. econjwatch.org/news/michael-…

But not a sarbecovirus. Me: "No sarbecovirus has been found with a furin cleavage site except SARS-CoV-2." Scientist: "Some coronaviruses have FCS". Me: "Indeed, just not sarbecoviruses." This is like arguing no ape has a tail and being told "Ah but monkeys have tails".

Replying to @angie_rasmussen
Funny, because Simon Wain-Hobson - one of the top virologists in the world, who strongly leans research-origin, was asking the same question about you.

A rather good short piece by @natashaloder who does her best to stay neutral and on subject. Still, Natasha is going to get a lot of hate from the false zoonotic certitudes pushers She dared sideline Pekar et al, poke holes in the official data and ignore Debarre’s hallucinations. A terrible crime. Nothing else than the full articles of faith are required, otherwise that could set back dGoF work, expose bad papers and compromised scientists, and be water to Trump’s mill. overmatter.substack.com/p/in….

Peter Daszak spent years calling anyone who said the lab leak theory should be investigated a conspiracy theorist. Now he is facing a possible charge of conspiring to hide the evidence of a lab leak. That’s called karma.

Fauci’s aide pleads guilty to defrauding the U.S. and conspiracy related to the NIH funding of the Wuhan labs and the origin or Covid 19. Everyone who said there was a conspiracy was right. But the conspiracy was to hide the evidence of the lab leak.
Fauci Senior Advisor David Morens pleads guilty to "Conspiracy to Commit Offenses and to Defraud the United States" in connection with conspiring with Fauci, Daszak, Keusch, and others to defraud the public about NIH-funded gain-of-function research and the origin of COVID.

David Morens, who was senior advisor to Anthony Fauci, has pled guilty to conspiracy. He signed this document, agreeing that if the case had proceeded to trial, it would've proven the following beyond reasonable doubt: Morens and his co-conspirators 1 and 2 (including Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance) and others 💠conspired to defraud and commit offenses against the United States by hiding from public view various federal records related to the pandemic 💠emailed information to Morens at his personal email to relay to Senior NIAID Official 1 (Anthony Fauci) while instructing Morens to use means of communication that would not be discovered in a FOIA search 💠plotted and repeatedly expressed their intention to conceal federal records and provided info to Senior NIAID Official 1 (Fauci) favorable to a co-conspirator's company (EcoHealth) 💠used Morens' personal email to exchange federal records concerning the drafting and sources relied upon for public writings on the origins of the Covid-19 virus 💠concealed their communications so they could generate the appearance of disinterested scientific consensus in support of a co-conspirator's company (EcoHealth) 💠shared information about Congressional inquiries and FOIA requests to anticipate press reactions, develop talking points and coordinate responses Morens faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. storage.courtlistener.com/re…

1/5 Great piece by David Relman. He was part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Biological Sciences Experts Group, and in the NASEM cooperation & intel game with China: "My own view, for what it is worth, is that a lab accident in Wuhan is the most plausible explanation for Covid.."

Even The New Yorker strongly suspects it's a lab leak and knows Fauci is involved and is uneasy... And we find here a beginning of reckoning that Fauci benefited from a genuine cult of personality and that all in the Covid was not well. All in all, not bad at all, certainly far better than most! "Yet Fauci’s silence was a loss. Paul may have come at the matter with theatrics and ill will, but some of his questions, in their most basic forms, are worth exploring, because the debate about where the novel coronavirus came from is ongoing, divisive, and important. One scenario, which Fauci has favored, involves a naturally occurring jump from bats to humans, probably via some other species; another postulates a lab leak, most likely from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, in the Chinese city where COVID-19 first emerged. Some of the Wuhan lab’s work involved developing new variants of coronaviruses. (Embedded in the Fauci-Paul conflict is a genuine dispute over the definition and risks of what is called “gain of function” research.) The institute also received funding from NIAID, via a sub-grant from a nonprofit. According to NIAID, however, the coronaviruses that were the subject of that grant were not closely related to the one that caused the pandemic. If the diary entries are any indication, Fauci, in the midst of the pandemic, also savored his own press coverage and lionization. There are too many mentions of Julia Roberts and of Fauci bobblehead dolls. In the hearing, Senator Josh Hawley, Republican of Missouri, accused Fauci of being on a narcissistic “power trip” (which is the kind of journey that Hawley himself seems to relish). In Fauci’s defense, idolatry is a group effort. Thousands of Americans were buying those bobbleheads, and someone had to publish the flattering articles he read with pleasure. Particularly after his split with Trump, Fauci became something of a politicized totem, for better and worse. Despite the near-miracle of the vaccine, which became available in December, 2020, there was much about the pandemic response that was far from perfect, in both blue and red states. Why, for example, wasn’t there an all-government effort to get schools reopened sooner and more consistently? There were reasonable concerns about infection and the impact on teachers and on vulnerable family members. Still, the costs of those closures have become more clear with each passing year. Watching Fauci as he sat listening was a reminder of how little anyone really knew back in 2020. Most of the world was fumbling and scared, and Fauci seemed to have some idea of what to do. But, even acting on the best evidence available, and with the best of intentions, there were times when he, too, must have been guessing. Realizing that truth would be a route toward not only better preparedness going forward but also a more general granting of grace. If Fauci has regrets about the pandemic, he wouldn’t be alone." newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

All the focus on Fauci is burying the more important story, which is that scientists enforcing a common narrative to the detriment of truth has become extremely common. It's a strong case of in-group behavior in academia that, I believe, most of them are not fully aware of. As @LocasaleLab put it so aptly "the academic system punishes honesty". And this is the real story: This isn't just about Fauci. Fauci is just an extreme and very visible example in a case that has attracted a lot of public attention. But misleading the public about the status of scientific research has become extremely widespread.

We now finally have the story of the behind-the-scenes crisis management by Peter Daszak and Shi Zhengli regarding RaTG13 (and other unpublished viruses).🧵👇 The story begins in May 2021, when yours truly posted Yu Ping's 2019 WIV thesis on Twitter. It listed, among other things, "Ra4991" with lower spike identity to SARS (75.4%) than the published RaTG13 (76.6%). About a month later, on 23 June 2021, Clare Thomas (Nature Senior Editor) emails Shi Zhengli, saying she had been "contacted by someone" but had "not looked at the thesis itself," and requests clarification regarding the discrepancy.

Wu's recent articles in the Atlantic defending Fauci are stacks of steaming shit. Just like Wu's previous articles promoting science fraud by Fauci''s 'Proximal Origin' fraudsters. Wu has no shame.
