“And out of that hopeless attempt has come nearly all that we call human history—money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery—the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.” -C.S. They're one of the most mocked religions around. But Mormons live longer, healthier, wealthier lives than the rest of us. Why does this religion that seems so odd ... work so well?

SEVEN DAYS. I was a Democrat since I was 18. I even voted for Biden. I spent years knocking on Democrat congressmen and women’s doors. Years talking to them. Years testifying, trying to enlighten them that trans hurts gay people. I thought being a Democrat would help me persuade them that they are hurting women with their trans agenda. I thought offering them bills that would fix the harms they did to kids and gay people from someone on their own team would work. I was wrong. Not ONE Democratic candidate stood up to protect females from males in women’s prisons, secret social transition of kids, males in female sports, sex-rejecting interventions on children or detransitioners. NOT ONE. If you think they will magically change their mind if you vote for them again, you are sadly mistaken. Their candidacy was bought by the trans advocates themselves. (Yes, some Democrats are seeing the errors of their way, but none here is CA). Vote Red for everything but insurance commissioner. Dem. Ben Allen is a-ok.

PSA: No one in my network owes anyone answers about their relationship or lack thereof with @Alphaschool. Just Say No to Witch Hunts. It's unfortunate that some are treating Alpha as some kind of existential threat and harassing employees. Harassing everyone I ever worked with is worse, of course, but some Alpha naysayers appear to lack awareness of the boundaries of appropriateness. I hope everyone opts out of engagement with such behaviors. Also, I'm going to fiercely defend the right of people to contribute at Alpha behind the scenes, precisely because of the bullying and harassment. I developed a thick skin during the pandemic, when I was repeatedly bullied for wanting American schools to reopen (as they had in Europe, Florida, the US sun belt, many smart suburbs of NYC like Scarsdale and Bronxville, I-could-go-on). Many tried to cancel me then, and while it was immensely stressful, it prepared me to ignore the trolls and haters when I was on the right side of an issue. I don't expect everyone to have a similar tolerance for online abuse, hence my protectiveness of my brilliant colleagues (the ones at Alpha and the ones not at Alpha; obviously, most are in the latter camp).

NEW: The Registrar in Shasta County, CA disputes LA County's Claim that it can not temporarily segregate mail-in ballots to determine citizenship.   Clinton Curtis, the Shasta County Registar, also a licensed attorney in New York, writes under penalty of perjury: "Electronic information management systems that are used for voting in California can flag the ballots of likely noncitizens identified by the United States, and the sorting machines can segregate those electronically flagged ballots while determining citizenship under state and federal law. Manual procedures also exist to segregate ballots cast by individuals believed to be noncitizens."

There are at least 20,000 non-citizens on the California voter rolls. Congressman Duarte lost by 187 votes. Congresswoman Michelle Steel lost by 653 votes. This is a constitutional crisis.
The thing they said doesn't happen is happening again. There is a minimum of 20,000 noncitizens on California voter rolls. Pass the SAVE AMERICA ACT and secure our elections.

Pan wants to go to Congress to lecture people rather than vote NO on Prop 40 right now.
Dr. Richard Pan is the Democrat running against Rep. Kevin Kiley for California's Congressional District 6. I asked repeatedly, but he would not say if he's a yes or no on Prop 40, the CA billionaire tax:

I was reliably told this never happens in California. It's an anomaly. Plus, can these ballots be in a more secure space than Skid Row? Hardly. Nevertheless, I'm sure that the Secretary of State and LA Registrar are all over it. (Just don't tell Sheriff Bianco...we don't want to give him any more ammo, know what I'm sayin?)

Also note that LAUSD is spending more on employees, but these additional dollars are increasingly spent outside the classroom. Between 2013 and 2023, inflation-adjusted expenditure on employee compensation grew by about $1.7 billion or 27% (despite losing 35% of their students). Total dollars going to teachers rose by $85.4 million, as their share of employee compensation fell from 52% to 42%. The problem isn't just that LAUSD is spending more than they take in, its priorities are also out of whack. reason.org/commentary/losing…
Math is hard for the LAUSD. "Enrollment declined from 440,365 to 369,830 students, a decrease of about 16%. Over the same period, the total of 'full-time-equivalent' jobs increased from 60,344 to 64,148, or about 6.3%" latimes.com/california/story…

I've uncovered why LADWP water rates are skyrocketing. LADWP's supplier said water conservation was too successful, leading water use/revenue to collapse— justifying a 40% rate hike. They asked us to save water, so we did. But we saved too much, so they're spiking our rates.
An independent, non-city-affiliated audit of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power rates has been ordered by Mayor Karen Bass, her office says. ktla.com/news/local-news/ind…

Far from frivolous -- the problem is practical and lack of jurisdiction because didn't give Dist. Ct. time to act. Part of that is on the Dist Ct for taking 4 days to settle assignment issue. Bennett focused on State expert saying "This can't be done as envisioned by Feds". SCOTUS would say "We have less than perfect election processes all over the country every year. Problems identified in Calif are up to political branches to fix." BUT -- Calif has now admitted there is NO MECHANISM to challenge a mail-in ballot. The challenge mechanism involving sequestration and cancellation of a vote is at the precinct for in-person voting. There is no provision in California law for challenging mail-in votes. So the Calif system is rigged by requiring attestation only, and then having no process where that attestation can be challenged such that an illegal vote won't be counted. Once the ballots are mailed, the illegal votes are baked in. DOJ has other option now -- prosecute all who return ballots. Issue GJ subs to the State of California for voting records of every person they suspect. Don't need PC for a GJ subpoena. This is how California wants to play it,.
Replying to @shipwreckedcrew
100% odds 9th Cir. DENIES Trump's sequestration of ballots request and, as @shipwreckedcrew notes, SCOTUS won't touch it. Another frivolous, sanctionable, attempt by Trump to sow distrust in fair elections. Dude is desperate. But he will definitely get more desperate.
