Quite serious. critical to national security and how trillions of dollars of value at major labs and the frontier of research mustbe protected Lux family co Cathedral's (+a16z +Sequoia) AI tools penetrated Anthropic, including its internal slack and more in under 12 hours🤯
EXCLUSIVE: In less than 12 hours, a group of ex-DOGE cyber researchers were able to penetrate Anthropic’s systems using AI agents — including Slack channels where the most sensitive models are discussed. This is just weeks after Anthropic whistleblower Joseph Coxon charged the company w/launching “a hubristic gamble” from a “private company’s Slack.” Read our story here (gift link): wapo.st/4smNlsC

Every so often, you meet a team that changes your expectations of what’s possible. Ben, Asher, Aidan, and the team at @flappyairplanes are exactly that. They have brought together a very special group of people (with an average age of 24!) to go after one of the most important challenges in AI: reimagining how machines learn and how we unlock the full potential of our compute. Proud to partner with this exceptional team as they fundamentally change how intelligence gets built.
Hello again, it's been a while. We're writing to let you know that we have raised quite a lot more money. We're letting you know because we are on the lookout to hire smart people and this will help us do that. See you again when we have a product or have raised more money!

Kushal is an extraordinarily special talent!
Good morning friends. Flappy's quest for extreme learning efficiency has led us to build the 'Kittens Virtual Machine' (KVM) framework, which launches a megakernel that acts as a persistent runtime and exposes its own instruction-based programming model. The KVM (a) provides unprecedented control and visibility over the hardware (something we've been extensively utilizing to accelerate our internal research), exposing a completely new kind of systems–training co-design space, (b) reaches vastly SoTA speeds without hand-tuned kernels, and (c) tremendously increases GPU utilization by co-packing multiple independent workloads into the same kernel.

We’ve spent the past year developing new primitives for GPUs. We believe this enables new algorithms to change how machines learn, open new markets, and dramatically reshape AI’s cost structure. We have raised a $1 billion Series A, co-led by Index and Lux.

You can now train your own decision model in our platform AC2! Jev-like models, custom fit for your use case :) We implement decision models through a language-model backbone with a small learned output layer called a decision head. The backbone processes the input, question, and answer choices, and the head produces scores which are softmaxed to produce a probability distribution over answer choices. Our software interface makes it easy to add a variable-sized decision head to frontier open-weight models. Choose any open source model, and train it as a decision model using Brier loss or cross-entropy loss. Training updates both the decision head and the language backbone. We tried it on 50k sampled training datapoints from the Civil Comments dataset, starting from Perplexity’s pplx-decider-v1-27b, and F1 for detecting toxic comments increased from 0.482 to 0.677 on 20k sampled eval datapoints. The training job took less than an hour on four B300 GPUs. Reach out to get started with your own classification task: docs.appliedcompute.com/plat…

Hey Matan - CEO of Cognition here. I respect the work you have done at Factory but your allegations here about Cognition are not true. We have no interest in Factory’s info and Chris has never brought it up. He has not shared and would never share any information about you or Factory with our team, nor would we ever ask. Similarly, we would never ask our engineers or anyone on our team to collect info about any competitor under-the-table. Chris is an advisor to at least 10 companies, and he told you he was resigning as an advisor on Monday. The truth is we both wanted Chris and for good reason - he is a living legend with an unmatched reputation for results and integrity. Not only is he the only person who has built a sales org from the first sales hire to over 3B, he also has built incredible teams that he cares deeply about. His people love working for him. Again, I have a lot of respect for what you’ve built, but competing with integrity doesn’t include posts like yours.
We are terminating Chris Degnan for unethical conduct involving Cognition. The last few months have seen incredible progress in AI capabilities. San Francisco has flourished as new companies that solve new, more ambitious problems are finding great success. Generally, it is a wonderful time to be building. We at @FactoryAI have seen overwhelming interest in our model-agnostic coding agents and our software factory product. Our team has 10x’d in size, while our revenue has 100x’d year over year. This momentum has been unprecedented. A much larger competitor, Cognition (makers of Devin) has fallen behind us on the capabilities that matter most to customers: cost, quality, and security. Instead of competing in the market, Cognition engineers feigned interviews with us to pry information about our product. Not finding what they were looking for, Cognition has decided to throw their weight and money at people with direct knowledge of our most confidential plans. It feels as though ethics is being thrown out of the window in the AI era. People are willing to do anything, including exploiting privileged information and violating ethical boundaries. I think this is unique to our time, and I don’t think it’s right. Integrity still matters. Yesterday, I made the decision to immediately terminate Christopher Degnan’s roles as a Board Observer and Advisor to Factory, after over a year of service. Prior to this decision, Chris told me he had a casual conversation with an executive at Cognition AI. When I questioned his intentions, he reassured me that ethics aside, he had “made too much money” and was “too lazy to go work for Cognition,” which I trusted and believed. On Monday, Chris spent time advising the Factory team on a handful of confidential board-level matters. That evening, he called me to say that the conversation that was initially described as casual and one-off was actually formal and recurring. For weeks, while he sat in our board meetings and advised our leadership team, he was also confiding with executives of our largest competitor. Chris was subject to confidentiality obligations in connection with his work with Factory. We do not know the extent of the information he shared, but it puts his timely questions about our product roadmap and what the parity gap involves into a new light. It is sad to sever a relationship with someone who has been a trusted advisor - and even a close friend - for over a year. But Chris’s conduct is unacceptable to me. Trust in Board Membership is one of the sacred bonds in the Silicon Valley, one that helps the startup ecosystem thrive. With it comes an enormous responsibility. That trust was violated. Competition is good. I respect and in many cases admire our competitors. San Francisco is a beautiful, singular place where the bold and ambitious go to defy the norms and precedents of the past. But certain principles that must remain. Violating ethics to seek advantage turns what should be positive-sum into zero-sum. We all love technology. And we all love to compete. But we must hold ourselves to a higher standard. The future of software engineering comes with abundance that will impact every person on Earth. Building that future comes with immense responsibility. We must build and compete with integrity.

We at @DiffusionVC are proud to back Parallax in its $117 million round. Power will soon be the bottleneck to the progress of AI. You can stand up 100,000 GPUs in months. The gas turbines to run them take years. The reason is a design choice made decades ago. Gas turbines were built for utilities and jets, where fuel is the dominant cost over a 30-year life. So the entire industry optimized for efficiency: exotic alloys, extreme temperatures, a core with more than 2,000 parts, and a specialty supply chain that can only build so many per year. Parallax designs turbines optimized for throughput. Smaller units (about 10 megawatts), a 3-D printed core that collapses 2,000 parts into a handful, lower combustion temperatures so it can use common materials and the aerospace supply chain, and a footprint that fits in a shipping container. Parallax is one of Diffusion's core investments, alongside Eclipse, Lux, Founders Fund, Greylock and General Catalyst. First prototype this year, customer deliveries in 2028.

There will be an 65GW+ delta between compute committed and power available from the grid by the end of the decade. If we want to keep scaling AI this needs to close. (2/5)
