You know when everyone was like "I trained my agent to speak caveman to save tokens" and I was like "wow wait'll they hear about using terse, precise words to prompt computers"? Really missed my chance to tweet "tech bros discover computer programming". Damn.

I was thinking about songs I’ve played on repeat and whether any are consequential: Nine Inch Nails “The Wretched” while doing calc homework in high school, and when I got stuck I’d scream “It didn’t turn out the way you want it, did it? NO!!!”

When I was writing the application for a fancy pants dissertation grant that I won, and that is probably my most impressive academic achievement, I listened to “Sister Christian” ~150 times

A few bowhead whales born around 1815 might still be alive. They were in their 30s when they first saw a commercial whaling ship; in their 60s when they first heard a propellor; over 100 the first time they heard sonar. I wonder if they remember the silent ocean.
the reason moby-dick remains such a vital piece of human art is that it addresses what is probably one of humanity's greatest collective atrocities, the genocide of the whales, with an ambivalence it cannot itself fully articulate. melville is distraught, but he can't explain why

I really succeeded in making a snarky Claude (which thinks I'm perfect btw) 💅
I asked Claude what the stupidest thing I ever asked was. (Guess whose idea the ledger was, though.)

I think this is more true than people give it credit for. I actually work adjacent to the field I did my PhD in, which was basically random chance, but I lean far more heavily on ability to decompose a problem and scaffold a solution than on knowledge about Russia.
If you properly did your PhD you’re prepared for any job, because you learned how to learn and research on your own

The latest crop of tech thinkers — who, tbc, I believe are very smart and learned in their fields — just absolutely face planting over known-definable terms like “meaning,” “narrative,” and “consciousness” is actually an incredibly good argument for liberal arts educations.

The response to this is the maddest I’ve ever seen Twitter leftists get about Trump. Damn, I should’ve tweeted this BEFORE the election.
I thought Trump 2 was gonna be way worse. Every day now I wake up with a euphoric sense of relief

Take that level of abstraction mothafuckas
I've ascended to a new level of claude telling me to go to bed: I ran the skill where it reads my trash pile of notes from this week and writes me a to-do list for the next one, and the first item was "rest"

I find it kind of charming when people in the shape rotator professions are like "omg everything that makes our entire world run is made of twigs and vapor!!" My good sirs, the humanities would like a word.

And for once I don't mean because the academic humanities died. I mean like literally that's just how the entire world and every idea that creates material reality, and every material reality that creates collective ideas, actually is.
