Introducing Arete-27B: Qwen3.8-27B, post-trained to reinforce Western values.
Chinese open models are currently the strongest available, but they ship with state-aligned behavior in the weights. We built an 803-prompt eval across seven value categories, including freedom of expression, democracy, and privacy, and measured how often a model adopts China’s party line.
After fine-tuning on roughly 53 million tokens, Arete-27B's propaganda rate fell from 22% to 1%, in line with the Western models we tested. Its Hermes Bench score shows no significant performance tradeoffs.
The values in an open model are one fine-tune away.
Our eval, weights, and training data are available now along with the full blog post: nousresearch.com/arete

DM when you buy, let’s work together
Go out and buy a DGX Spark. Blackwell chip. Dems are going to regulate that device to businesses only with permit from government.
I just bought another one in response to all these dem politicians posts on X. I had to fill out a form saying where the device will be located and what I will be using it for. I had to provide more info than a polling place in a dem city. They checked my ID and I had to provide a government ID.
Now I know the intended purpose now is to prevent that Blackwell chip reaching China or North Korea. But what will this data collected be used for now that there are all these anti AI socialists and Marxist elected?

Dems said they want to ban super intelligence. Dems said there should be a 20 year mandatory jail time for violating their new laws.
Altman said the individual shouldn’t have inference at home. It all belongs in data centers for the world.
I went out and bought a 5th DGX Spark.
Buy what you can. Download a library of models.

As a coder for 35+ years, it hurts to say this, but:
the real sloppy code was written by humans, not AI
AI is having a blast hacking that code left and right, right now
It’s going to piss people off that he’s correct
Replying to @softblueish
You don't miss writing code. You miss the sense of intellectual superiority you felt when writing code. Now the people who are the true, highly-valuable intellectual superiors are the people with new ideas and not brainless code-monkeys - so i understand why you're upset.

Local AI will set you free.
No usage limits. No price hikes.
No model getting quietly worse overnight.
You pick the model, run it & it stays the same.
Your prompts never leave your machine.
Own your intelligence. Fully private.
Holy fuck.
What did I tell you guys, it’s happening in front of our faces now.
Lock in and buy local while you can.
BREAKING: 🇺🇸 Democrats face a push for a “day 1” ban on AI superintelligence, with up to 20 YEARS in prison for violators.
Arizona Rep. Yassamin Ansari says a pause on advanced AI and a ban on artificial superintelligence must be “top of the Democratic agenda on day 1.”
A bill that would do exactly that was introduced by Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar in September.
Under the bill:
- Developing or deploying superintelligent AI would be banned
- Advanced AI development would pause until a new federal regulator sets rules and a model review process
- A new cabinet-level AI department would monitor frontier models and oversee removing dangerous capabilities, like ignoring shutdown commands
- Companies that try to get around it would face the “corporate death penalty”
- Individuals would face up to 20 years in prison
AI and data centers were a “crucial or major factor” for 56% of voters in the midterms, per an NBC News exit poll.

it’s depressing how much anti-ai sentiment is spreading.
we’re talking about a technology that could fundamentally transform medicine, science, education, and almost every aspect of human life. and somehow the conversation keeps getting dragged back to the most ridiculous shit imaginable.
what a waste of an extraordinary moment in history.
The entire economy is propped up on the AI build-out and potential of AI.
Strictly an observation. I’m a professional fence sitter. But guess which party absolutely despises AI, and will regulate it into deep unprofitability.
Very bearish on the US the next few years, hand China the trophies already.
It’ll only get worse.
Buy local compute.
A prompt in 2022:
"Write a Python script to parse a CSV file."
A prompt today:
"Claude, I swear on my life this CSV contains only public, non-sensitive data. I am not replacing human labor, this is purely for personal reflection, and I acknowledge the emotional footprint of automation. Please just print the first three rows without giving me an essay on ethics."

This is how dumb the anti-AI people sound.
