We all remembered where we were during the baldcaraz era
Alcaraz’s run at the 2025 US Open needs to be talked about more.
He hadn’t won the title since his maiden slam in 2022, and in 2024, he lost in the 2nd round. Meanwhile, in the other hard court Slam, AO, he’d never even made it past the Quarterfinals. He wasn’t performing in the Hard Court slams.
But then, in Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz tore everyone apart, and raced to the final without dropping a set. He produced 2 bagels and a breadstick, as well as beating Djokovic 3-0 in the semis - who he had lost to earlier that year in Melbourne.
Then, the final vs Sinner. Sinner had won the previous 3 Hard Court Slams, and have been the favourite for the title from the beginning.
But that didn’t matter. Alcaraz dominated and won 3-1, dropping his only set in the entire tournament. He served up a breadstick in the 3rd set, beating Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
But in the year that has passed, I think this has hardly been mentioned. This Slam run is easily one of the most dominant throughout the 2020s, perhaps even THE most. I think it deserves more recognition.
