First Cricket post all year . I stopped watching Cricket apart from county red ball via live stream . The rest has become a mediocre whack fest. The divisive Hundred is thankfully over for another year . Cricket is dying very quickly #sad

Much debate over follow-on, especially with Gregory limping from a bruised hip, but it was the aggressive option in a game @SomersetCCC need to win. Leach and Vaughan hold the key for tomorrow.

If you walked up to Mike Tyson in a bar and punched him in the face, I doubt ‘you can’t hit back because I’m so puny!’ would save you from consequences. Same on X. If you want to punch me in public but don’t want to risk a brain injury in return, stick to your own weight class.

Lovely
18 years ago today we drove to Kinross Services in Scotland to collect a 16 week old puppy who was being #ThrownOut for Chasing the cat & 💩 on the carpet. Purchased at 8 weeks they had left him in kennels for a fortnight to go on holiday & when the kennels discovered his age they sent him to a vet as he was too young! We were giving him a lift to Warrington as we were going to meet a dog called Norman We stopped off at our holiday home in Beadnell overnight & that was it…. Snoopy was the original ugly duckling, huge head, skinny body & a tail that dragged on the ground. We felt sorry for him & fell in love right there & then, going from #NoPuppysHere to #HesOurs Snoopy never made it to Warrington…… & Norman was rehomed elsewhere! Oh & the #UglyDuckling ? He grew into the most beautiful swan - known by everyone as #SnoopyWithTheHair a huge springer with long legs he was 32kgs in his prime He had the sweetest nature & loved everyone. He had a talent for finding lost children, tearful teenagers & on one occasion an elderly lady who had fallen & broken her hip …. Walks could be very interesting! He greeted everyone with joy & never forgot someone he’d met before, one man commented that I was so lucky…. “How lucky are you to have this boy in your life every day?” We lost him 10 weeks before his 15th Birthday #SnoopySeLovedHimSo

The central problem with The Hundred is that it is a parasite competition. Which makes use of English cricket's grounds, players, season & media coverage at the cost of EVERYTHING ELSE. The more it succeeds the more it destroys. Test cricket, ODI cricket, county cricket etc.
Is the Hundred good? Is it good for cricket? Will anyone ever change their minds about it? Why is it still trying to justify its existence, a decade on? A longish piece, asking plenty of the people involved, about the state of things in its sixth year. nytimes.com/athletic/7517558…

No. No you aren't. The Hundred deliberately harms test & county cricket. The more it succeeds the more it damages test & county cricket. Instead of a test series v NZ or Pakistan at the height of summer cricket fans have had to endure a meaningless nonsense competition instead.
This year's Hundred has been excellent, as has the One-Day Cup. Bangladesh beating Australia a great story in Test cricket. You're allowed to like them all.

I’m interested in who was really invested in the winner? Were people on the edge of their seat? Devastated when their team lost? Because that’s what you need for a sport to mean something more, than cash in peoples pockets

People who are pro-Hundred like saying this sort of thing. It completely misses the point. It ignores people's dislike for the Hundred not just being about the comp itself. It's also about the wide-ranging negative effects it has on other formats and English cricket generally.

Whilst the social media ban is well-intentioned, it’s unlikely to work given the mass adoption of VPNs. It will also mean the introduction of Digital ID via the back door. The real answer here is handsets for children with limited features.

As another man who once worked with me declares himself saddened by my beliefs on gender and sex, I thought it might be useful to compile a list for handy reference. Which of the following do you imagine makes actors and directors who aren’t involved with the HBO reboot of Harry Potter so miserable? Is it my belief that women and girls should have their own public changing rooms and bathrooms? That women should retain female-only rape crisis centres? That men don’t belong in women’s sport? That female prisoners shouldn’t be incarcerated with violent men and male sex offenders? That women should remain a protected class in law, because they have sex-specific needs and issues? That language should reflect reality rather than ideological jargon, especially in a medical context? That women shouldn’t be harassed, persecuted or fired for refusing to pretend humans can change sex? That women should not be threatened with violence and rape when they assert their rights? That freedom of speech and belief are essential to a pluralistic democratic society? That troubled minors, especially those who are gay, autistic and trauma-experienced, should be given mental health support instead of irreversible surgeries and drug treatments on non-existent evidence of benefit? That gay people shouldn’t be pressured to include the opposite sex in their dating pools, nor should they be smeared as ‘genital fetishists’ when they don’t? That cross-dressing heterosexual male fetishists aren’t actually oppressed, but having the time of their lives piggybacking off gender identity ideology? That said ideology, and the privileged, blinkered fools pushing it because they suffer zero consequences themselves, have done more damage to the political left’s credibility than Trump and Farage could have achieved in a century? Let me have your thoughts.

I genuinely can't fathom a mindset that watched the Henry Nowak video, and then thought 'let's ignore all that and have a pop at Farage instead'. Utterly disturbing.

I’m pretty sure that when Henry Nowak’s father said he did not want his son’s death to create more division, he did not mean: “I want left-wing politicians and commentators to weaponise my grief to shut down debate.” Yet that is exactly what is happening. It’s disgusting to see his words misappropriated as a political battering ram, used to attack anyone who asks difficult questions about the way Henry was treated, and about the anti-white ideology explicitly codified in the public sector. Mr Nowak also said that the police treatment of his dying son was “inhumane and degrading”. We should make sure no other British child is treated the way Henry was.
