I don't want to see a celebrity dressed as another celebrity. I want this dumb shit.

Letting her wife make a joke of black face by dressing up as Raven and making herself green is crazy. And using THIS as an avenue to clear things up while making a mockery of the situation is crazy. I can’t take her seriously because she still doesn’t get it.
Raven-Symoné CLARIFIED her controversial comments after previously questioning whether That’s So Raven and her character Raven Baxter were inherently “BLACK,” explaining that she never denied the show centered around a Black family, but that its appeal went BEYOND RACE and connected with audiences worldwide 👀 “People from every country watched a Black family, but they saw themselves in that family... which means we were universal.”

why does colorism discourse ALWAYS return back to how the lightskin / mixed / biracial person's feelings are hurt and not to the real issue of brown & darkskin Black people (primarily women) being forced to accept rep that doesn't actually represent them or their experiences.

there is an illusion that black women are being properly represented in media which has stuck and i am glad that this conversation is being had because it’s actually the exact opposite
Naomi Ackie was told a “softer” curl could help her get roles. Chlöe and Halle Bailey were told they might book jobs if they changed their locs. Different women, same message: Hollywood has repeatedly rewarded Black actresses for making their natural hair look less Black.

but failed to show kindness and respect to francesca amewudah-rivers
Zendaya says there's one attractive quality about her husband that makes her jealous and impressed Zendaya: "Something I am always impressed with Tom about, which I feel like I want to inherit more of, is he's very... Tom Holland: "Awesome? legendary? talented?" Zendaya: Yeah, so many great words...but you really stand on your big stickler for respect and kindness." "Not to say that I'm not doing that, but you just make sure that is in the front." "And then if that line is crossed, I think sometimes he's better at drawing boundaries and making things clear. And I'm a little bit more like, okay, guys, it's all right, everything's all right." "You're good at being like, no, no, this is, we're not doing this. You're good at setting the boundaries when they need to be set. Really clearly, really strong." "So I like that you have, you know what you feel is right for yourself, and you do it, and for others you're very protective in that way.

& as much as I LOVE Amandla Stenberg, this movie is proof of that. 😭 there’s absolutely NO way. They simply don’t care.

The Hate U Give and The Sun is Also a Star came out months apart. So you can imagine many Black girls were upset by the casting of both. Keep in mind this was also during the time of All American and other teen drama shows that only featured biracial girls as leads. A shift will come two to three years later, but then the strikes happened.

this is why we’ll never be free because y’all are so willing to accept BULLSHIT as an answer 😭😭
every year this spread. if you read the book you would know that Starr was never depicted as dark skin. the author Angie Thomas wrote this with Amandla in mind to play her (Amandla’s activism at the time). The cover art wasn’t the author’s choice, it was the book publishers.

not to be rude but like get fucking serious! you think when the author was writing the entire book about a brown girl with an entirely black family was thinking about amandla? even if she was, the character ain’t biracial so it’s still stupid 😭
