Sort’ve obsessed with the way this girl somehow embodies all of the worst qualities of Israel AND Texas. Like Israelis had to tell her to quit saying they should ban abortion. Astonishing
"Carpet bomb them all". Speaking to The Guardian at an event ahead of Israel’s elections, a young Israeli woman called for Palestinians to be forcibly displaced from the Gaza Strip, saying they should be killed if they cannot be removed.

It’s not like 90s Simpsons didn’t parody really recent pop culture—Cape Feare came out a couple years after Scorsese’s Cape Fear. So I do wonder why I immediately turn up my nose at this
‘THE SIMPSONS’ will air an episode titled ‘The Kosmic Kruiser’ where Bart and Lisa break into Krustyland’s “most notorious and failed attraction.” Jenny Nicholson will appear in a guest role.

Ran Anthropic's S-1 thru Pangram, and it came back 92% human. Which I think is actually worrisome. If you wouldn't trust your own AI to write your SEC filings, you expect us to trust it out the world? businessinsider.com/anthropi…

A lot of people being naive about the Purdue hunter/killer drone. Did the researchers know what they’re making? Bro it is straight up a US Army research grant

people who are too young to remember a world before letterboxd really don't understand. it's been the most significant positive force for cinephilia of the century. for all its faults, it has completely changed film culture for the better

Kindle Periodicals was a really really great program and it’s so fucking stupid that there’s nothing in 2026 that will automatically send a newspaper, magazine, or even like a Substack right to an ereader

Lightbulb went off re: this and four-hour meandering podcasts when someone said a lot of the audience just doesn’t hang out and bullshit with friends anymore
I do have to ask as an old person: what kind of show is this Ethan Klein thing? Why would an audience sit through the hosts just talking about a water bottle for this long? Because of this affair thing I’m seeing a ton of clips from the show and is it really just banter for hours? Reminds me of FM radio drive time shows but those would mostly play music and do the banter in between songs. Or are these clips not representative of the thrust of the stream? What am I missing?

Not anyone specifically I’d point fingers at but I DO think some films get overpraised because nobody wants to be on record hating the next Blue Velvet or something
re: Ebert occasionally "missing" on a great movie, I think people forget that the point of criticizing art is not to be "correct," it's to engage with the work sincerely; a critic should be evaluated less on "correctness" and more the consistency/depth of their work

The best years of my life were when I lived somewhere without cable or internet and we’d all gather at a friends house a few nights a week and just make dinner, have some drinks and find various ways to occupy ourselves
We CANNOT even afford hobbies. We CANNOT afford to go out with friends. We CANNOT afford to exist anywhere outside our homes. They then call it a mental health crisis. It's not. It's an affordability crisis.

Sometimes we played cards or board games, sometimes someone would bring a guitar and we’d all learn songs. Sometimes we’d literally just eat and bullshit around a table for four hours. God I miss it

If I’m even going this direction I know I should say Bull Durham but in my heart of hearts it really is Tin Cup
You can’t say Rocky, Remember the Titans, Coach Carter, or The Sandlot. What’s the greatest sports movie of all time?

Roy just totally self-immolating in front of the whole world… well let’s just say it speaks to me

When people say book 2 of The Stand is a drag I don’t think they’re right, exactly, but there are a few hundred pages where King just straight up forgets to be scary or suspenseful. Which is rough because book 1 moves like a freight train
