Volatility works in clusters, big moves follow big moves, quiet follows quiet, and spikes happen when leverage is stacked up.
Here's basic principle: Open Interest grows too much, price cuts into it, and forced liquidations power the Bear or Bull Squeze; smaller the market, harder the spike.
Here is top 10 signs of upcoming volatility:
1. Tight range at Bollinger Bands, more they shrink harder the next move will be
2. Cheap options, which means implied volatility drops to the bottom of the year
3. 2 day options cost 15% more than 30 day ones
4. Futures cost less than spot, or vice-versa
5. Funding over 0.05% at either side
6. Price nears liquidation cluster, you can spot one at heatmaps
7. Open interest moves faster than price
8. Large chunk of options expiry is due soon
9. Other markets stress out while crypto does not
10. Big macro news: FOMC meeting, Unemployment Change, GDP q/q, Core PCE Price m/m, FED rate hikes
