I feel like this might have been a universal experience as a kid growing up, but idk but when I was young I was so saddened by the fact that I could only watch YouTubers play Minecraft mods and not play them myself as it was too technical for me to install as a 7 year old, and I just remember being so like jealous. Of not being able to like play the clay soldiers mod.
Replying to @LadyAuro_
this is going to keep happening until you are used to it fyi

I will forever resent school for preventing me from learning as much math as I could have. If I had had access to self-paced math and encouraged to go for it, I would have covered a lot more math. I actually had two different high school math classes where we were required to slow down because we were getting out of synch with the other cohorts.
My mission to make self-service learning accessible to more students is motivated largely by how big a difference it made in my own life.
I was not supposed to land anywhere near where I am today:
-- there's not a single person in my family who is mathematical, technical, scientific, or academic;
-- the sole contribution of my HS counselor to my college apps was misspelling the word "Calculus" as "Calculas" on my transcripts;
-- my HS didn't have a math team and I didn't even know that people like me were supposed to be doing math competitions to open mathy college/career doors.
But fortunately I discovered self-study midway through HS and benefitted wildly from it, which is why I'm so motivated to make self-service learning accessible to more students.
Most people, and especially most kids, don't understand that you can skill-equip yourself an Iron Man suit and fly off the default path that life sets before you, build an engine instead of passively floating wherever the default current of life's river takes you.
So I'm trying to get the word out and help as many people as possible take advantage of it.

People don't hate math; they hate the feeling of being lost. They hate the compounded debt of unlearned prerequisites.

Every hour I spend tutoring radicalizes me further.
Has nothing to do with the kids not being "smart" enough. They're being systematically set up to fail by a machine that prioritizes curriculum speed and pass rates over comprehension.

A redditor used spaced repetition to teach his kids how to read. Results:
- 4yo daughter could read at 5th grade level
- 3yo son could do 12x12 times tables

Everything you love about video games, you can find in real life upskilling. It takes more work and happens on a longer timescale, but the rewards grow far larger if you're willing to stick with it.

He’s interested in starting a business
Wants to break into my business
I invited him out for lunch
And gave him the worst possible advice
Got to kill off the competition early
