Del Mar, a wealthy coastal enclave, has been a scofflaw city, continuing to avoid contributing its fair share to regional housing needs. President of the YIMBY Dems, @mannyrbe, calls the city out for its behavior in a scorching op-ed. No paywall link: sandiegouniontribune.com/202…

Here is a list of City Councilmembers in San Diego County who endorse, Our Neighborhood Voices, a group that blames Chinese people for the housing shortage: City of Solana Beach Lesa Heebner – Mayor Jill MacDonald – Councilmember David Zito – Councilmember City of Del Mar Terry Gaasterland – Deputy Mayor Tracy Martinez – Councilmember City of Encinitas Bruce Ehlers – Mayor Jim O'Hara – City Council Member Luke Shaffer – City Council Member Marco San Antonio – City Council Member City of Oceanside Esther Sanchez – Mayor Peter Weiss – Councilmember
Chinese investors do not "move in.". They buy and sit, like corporate intersts. Perhaps they rent to create a rental nation. Perhaps they short term rent to create a motel world. Tenants are not owners.

All-star pro-housing team prepared a note suggesting how SANDAG, San Diego's regional planning body, should designate which transit stops are eligible for SB 79, and therefore, more housing!
Joint letter to @SANDAG with @YIMBYDemsSD @Yimby_Law @CirculateSD and Californians for Homeownership re SB 79 implementation. The MPO must follow the law when creating its maps of eligible TOD areas. drive.google.com/file/d/1pLS…

Bike lanes are used frequently in San Diego.
A few thoughts on @MayorToddGloria’s decision to scale back on bike lane construction.

TIME TO BUILD!
California told LA to build apartments near transit. LA's answer: a 70-page delay strategy. What an insult. cityclerk.lacity.org/onlined…

A huge win for housing! @Scott_Wiener’s SB-79 will allow major rezoning near transit hubs, tackling California’s housing affordability crisis. Congratulations to @CaYimby and @YIMBYDemsSD. I wish I could’ve been there to celebrate, but thank you for your leadership and advocacy.

New CEQA opinion nixing (again!) the voters' repeal of a 30' height limit in San Diego is a near-perfect vehicle for CA Supreme Court to jettison the worst of "Old CEQA." Very glad that @MayorToddGloria is determined to appeal it. 🧵

.@GavinNewsom: "God damnit. Enough. Democrats, stop being weak. Step up. These guys have been dominant in the narrative. They have been defining the terms of the debate. It's time to get off our damn heels, onto our front toes. It's time to do just that. Dominate the narrative, flood the zone with surround sound. It's time for us to all band together."

If not here, where should new housing go in our city? This is a 7 minute walk from a trolley stop that is minutes from downtown.
Replying to @paulkruegersd
Good turnout and media coverage for today’s rally:

Working families wait 30 min for buses while SANDAG plans $2B+ highway projects. Teens are right: spend $4M yearly for 7-minute trolley service instead. Fast, reliable transit connects people to jobs better than more car lanes. ift.tt/ClOJTg3

🧵 The San Diego region is officially halfway through our 6th Cycle RHNA, simply known as the region’s 8-year housing goals. Some interesting insights from the housing data over the past 4 years. The good news, we’ve gotten some policy/zoning reforms that have delivered increases in market rate & affordable housing. The bad news, it’s not enough. We’re just barely permitting enough market rate housing and we’re nowhere near hitting our affordable housing goals. Additionally, SB 35’s streamlining provisions are now updated (halfway point of the 6th Cycle) and I’ll go more into what that means at the end of maybe another thread. Here’s a quick breakdown of SD’s housing data 👇

“I don’t care how much you love working people. They can’t afford a house because all the rules in your state make it prohibitive to build. And zoning prevents multifamily structures because of NIMBY,” [Obama] said.

While federal agents raid neighborhoods and attack elected officials, NIMBYs are still fighting ADUs. Guess local control only matters when it's about keeping the 'wrong' people out of your neighborhood.
We have ICE invading our neighborhoods, taking children from school, Senators being tackled, and active military deployed on our street. @neighbors4CA has decided rather than standing with their community and protesting that, they are choosing to protest ADUs. Let that sink in.
