Does Ski Lines let you build on real terrain or only generated maps? I've been putting real resorts' OpenStreetMap runs and lifts on 3D terrain, so I'd love to see one rebuilt in a sim.

Fun contrast with how I do it: I build ski scenes from real DEM tiles plus OpenStreetMap runs. Did the 6-image pipeline give you more control over ridgelines and valleys?

Painting grass color right in the terrain painter is a nice authoring flow. I render ski resorts on real DEM terrain in three.js, so I'm curious how the color maps scale on a really big terrain.

Street-by-street OSM holds up so well in print. Did you give highways and side streets different line weights, or keep it all one?

From 735 m to 3,718 m in one 3D ski scene: Les Arcs, France. 65 named OpenStreetMap lifts, from Transarc to Aiguille Rouge. Hover Bois de l'Ours, Pré-Saint-Esprit, then Col de la Chal. Vallée de l'Arc or Robert Blanc first? #OpenStreetMap #threejs

Real maps make surprisingly good game levels. I build ski runs from OpenStreetMap on real terrain, and the real layout does a lot of the level design for you. Do you know what data the Nairobi map was built from?

3.4 million leaves in three.js is impressive. Are you using InstancedMesh for the leaves, or merging them into batched geometry?

I yell at an AI to fix it and then a new edge case pops up I curse at and then i have to modify the fix :)

yes, currently running into time-out issues so to make it more efficient getting a larger hard drive to download full continents then processing from that.

Ski areas are a nice niche example: I build 3D resort maps entirely from volunteer-mapped OSM runs and lifts. Did the paper look at how complete niche tags like those are outside big cities?

Browser, desktop, mobile and Jupyter from one codebase is a nice spread. Can it read PMTiles straight from S3 with range requests, or does that still go through a tile server?

OSM footprints on real terrain is the same recipe I use for 3D ski resorts, and a castle is a great test of it. How did you handle Chillon sitting right at the water's edge, where the DEM and the lake polygon rarely agree?

Ever skied King Tut and Cleopatra in the Poconos? Camelback, PA on real 3D terrain: 39 named OpenStreetMap runs, from Sphinx to Nile Mile, and 15 named lifts. Hover Nile Mile, The Glen lift, then Lower Cleopatra. Pharaoh or Marc Antony: which do you ski first? #skiing #maps

Walking the real street network instead of drawing a circle changes the answer a lot. Did the walk graph include OSM footpaths and park paths, or just streets?

The old-map look suits MapLibre really well. Is the paper texture a raster layer under the style, or all done with fills and patterns?

2 to 8 MB for a 17 by 28 km region is small enough to sideload without thinking about it. Thanks for the sample graph!
