If you find a good drywall guy, hold him close. Watch his kids. Wash his car. Whatever it takes. Go into debt if you have to.
We had a warranty call on a mini split and had to open the wall. Yay. HVAC plus drywall and paint $1060. 🚮

It would be so great if these people engaged in real conversations.
There is so much to learn and understand about architecture, it’s interesting to see people completely turn off their curiosity when they can’t grasp a new subject.

We spent $600B - $1.2T in real dollars fixing Y2K. It was a huge effort!
The lack of major problems from Y2K was more a result of solid preparation than misplaced fears.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners.
Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads.
Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was.
Got a root shell.
then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems.
This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

Claude can no longer “Reverse Engineer Anything.”
Anthropic just quietly killed REA.
But Interesting timing.
After a few viral cases of people using Claude to reverse-engineer Samsung TV firmware and identify data-collection services, Anthropic appears to have restricted those reverse-engineering abilities.

Pretty cool to have an app like X where everyone knows exactly what’s going to happen over the 18-24 months.
Makes business so much easier!

Don't forget he also popularized the concepts of exploded view drawings of mechanical inventions and anatomy.
He also painted what is considered to be the first true landscape painting.
He called himself a discipline of experience. And he wrote backwards in a mirror script.
Leonardo da Vinci created the first ever
"satellite view" map in 1502 of Imola, Italy.
He did this by manually measuring the angles and distance of every corner on every building in the city.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Leonardo’s 1502 Imola map was not the first overhead city plan. The Forma Urbis of Rome, made in 203–211 CE, mapped every building’s ground plan at 1:240 scale. Leonardo’s work was a surveyed Renaissance plan, but calling it the first “satellite view” is inaccurate.

#CustomCabinets:
If you buy factory cabinets from a store you may not know this happens:
The custom cabinet designer (shop owner typically) has been onsite several times measuring openings, ceiling heights, plumbing stub locations, clearances etc.
Custom cabinets are delivered to jobsite within a few inches of install spot by people who care because they made them. "please take care of my babies"
Precut to size Baltic birch "rough tops" are stacked nearby with identifying location marks
Prefabricated island top w overhang has steel reinforcement installed already.
The "packing" blankets leave with the delivery crew (no dumpster's worth of cardboard to remove and dispose of)
The cabinets are overall taller to account for finished floor thickness installed after.
No color matched laminate sides or trim pieces show up waiting to fade later.
There's a name on the hardware & it doesn't look the same.

I truly do not understand why the mayor thinks this blatant lie is savvier campaign rhetoric than just being honest & saying “I want to cut this tax.” even ppl I know who don’t support Prop I absolutely hate that he’s going around trashing nonprofit builders & his own department
i sent in this questions from a DSA comrade to the KQED forum with Lurie this morning. His answer is an obvious dodge -- basically, he won't say whether he commits to directing his own housing department to spend Prop I and C funds on new construction.

There’s a folk belief that high housing prices are a bubble and not reflective of the underlying fundamentals. I see it all the time on Facebook.

Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.
Someone told me he thinks dating apps are bad because they let you access connection without having any motion in your life. Normally meeting people requires going out into the world, entering new scenes and navigating unfamiliar situations. You have to be living a life that brings you into contact with other people. Dating apps let you order connection without doing any of that work

I haven't been checking the winds, but if these fires start hitting houses, it could be bad. The homes are what really allows the fires to jump.
Key prevention points: Defensible space, closed eaves, metal or tile roof and stucco.
If you're worried and have a pool, a gas trash pump with some hose and nozzle will get you right.

You can tell who doesn't own property when they suggest a full apartment renovation can be done for $5000.

This is bs. 120k to redo an apartment. Even 50k is 10x the max it should take to redo these units.
These owners just want the tax writeoff they will gain because of the losses they can claim.
Paint, carpet, vinyl flooring with labor 1500. New appliances, eco apartment sized 1500 max installed.
2k for other things it may need like basic sinks, fixtures (plumbing and lighting, basic cabinetry which if are wood are easily painted and upgraded with new pulls, and maybe some hinges)
Basic upgrades for budget apartments.
Not fancy, lixury apartment upgrades.
9 months of rent then in the clear.
3 day job. Have 2 hanyman friends that do it for clients that have various units that need this service from time to time.
2 guys in a minvan can bring all the tools and supplies.
120k is super fraud. 50k is major fraud.
Whatever happened to frugality? Shoestring budgets?
It's a tax play no doubt.

Couldn’t agree more. @nithyavraman is one of the rare leaders who changes her mind when shown convincing data. This is a strength, not a weakness. “Strong ideas, loosely held” is a core value for our most successful businesses. Why prefer a politician who pretends to have everything right from the start?
If ULA reform is your issue you have a choice between @nithyavraman who, yes, at first supported it but after studying the results called out its damaging impact to housing and has since led on reform. And @MayorOfLA who is, was and forever will be do nothing on reform. Easy call
