I wrote on one of my favorite directors, the great Werner Herzog, the Power of Myth, and some thoughts on psychoanalysis and introspection.
"Werner Herzog has often been called the original enemy of introspection. But his objection to psychoanalysis is not that of a man who avoids his inner life. He is the enemy of therapy culture insofar as he is more like a living archetype..." — @markgranza im1776.com/the-burden-of-dre…

1/ Peter Thiel is worried about the Antichrist. Over the course of four lectures in Nashville, Tennessee, the venture capitalist explained what that actually means.

I spoke with some soldiers, however, and they expect heavy reinforcements over the weekend. Several accounts linked to Antifa networks have announced more demonstrations planned for this Saturday and every weekend after that, in Milan, but also Bologna, Turin, Rome, Florence, Padua, Genoa, and Bari.
The main one seems to be “M1710” (October 17th Movement), which has gained 16.8k (and counting) followers on IG in two days. Yesterday it published a “manifesto” declaring itself an independent movement of disaffected youth inspired by mostly leaderless uprisings over the past fifteen years, from the Arab Spring and Occupy to Hong Kong 2019.
It tries to distance itself from existing far-left groups, deploying generic, anti-establishment rhetoric, yet nearly all of the 57 accounts it follows are openly antifa. Typical of how the far left has operated in Italy since the early 2010s, borrowing the Five Star Movement’s “no leaders, no party” branding to present itself as something new and exciting at every opportunity.

Categorizing rioters as “barbaric” completely misses the point. Modern riots in the West are mostly the result of an excess of civilization. This explains why opportunistic looting of luxury items occurs in every one of them. A true barbarian takes your gold, rapes your wife and seizes your land. A modern rioter steals a luxury item so he can return to the same world with a higher status and comfort level than before.

.@jamespoulos on why Anthropic's UBI-like proposal could become a bribe to surrender your humanity:
"Interesting to see a company do this instead of a government, which shakes up some of the preexisting ideological stances on UBI."
"You read the sci-fi corpus and you quickly learn that you can be very optimistic within a dystopian setting or very pessimistic in a utopian setting."
"One corporation eats everything, no one owns their data, total surveillance state. But you can have an optimistic UBI: we’re gonna send everyone money so that they can preserve their humanity."
"The flip side: a utopian AGI world. But we’re gonna give everyone money to basically bribe them to surrender their humanity and become food or battery packs or biological bootloaders for this post-human intelligence."

Probably the most annoying trait of the henpecking evangelical den mother type, of which there is a whole online ecosystem that encourages and rewards exactly this sort of endless nagging (pardon me, “content”), is the uncritical moralization of their discomfort/displeasure into various Rules of Christian Behavior. I don’t like horror movies so it’s Unchristian to watch them. I don’t like when my husband plays video games so Upright Christian Men shouldn’t do it. She is free to stick to her pureflix and kitschy embroidered throw pillows, but no that’s not enough, because what really matters is the cozy feeling she gets from the brood’s obedient validation of her various neuroses
