I wonder as the years go on will publishers start marketing romantasy as “not your grandmas romantasy” like how they do with historical romance or is it because they have prejudiced notions of what histrom is?

Many such cases of romance books written from 2020-present
i am once again thinking about that book that had SUCH a good concept and so much potential but was just executed horribly and no i wont name it bc its very popular and i’ll be attacked

You guys don’t know how painful it is when someone looks you in the eyes irl and recommends you a book that is just utter slop on a mountain of slop and you gotta just smile and nod

Or maybe you do it’s really not a unique experience but I mean there’s only so many times I have to smile like Margaret Qualley in the substance when someone recs me Penelope Douglas or HD Carlton. Do I look like i read those authors??

One of the only 2026 romance releases that actually made me FEEL something. Layla flies to Paris for her ex sister in laws wedding only to meet the gruff & reclusive best man. Kate Clayborn is one of the most talented authors writing atm who writes actual romantic swoony moments

I literally said that authors are being told to dumb their writing down by publishers because people can’t read at the level they should be reading at and people came at me with pitchforks on here
sometimes i accidentally wander over to threads

I can tell when authors are in group chats with each other before I read the acknowledgments because they lowkey be copying each others plots or subplots and maybe it’s unintentional but it’s happening a lot and and everything is starting to read the same 🤷‍♀️

And listen I’m not saying don’t critique or read ur friends manuscripts what I AM saying is that ur in a group chat because there’s probably an overlap in readers and if ur friends book is successful and praised for something they did well… doesnt really mean you gotta do it too

People will sit there with a straight face and say “historical romance is dead” yet when I talk about historical romance it’s always my most engaged with posts 🤷‍♀️

And for my next trick I’m going to inhale a 384 page historical romance that will probably alter my brain chemistry and give me hope that not every man is a horrible human being

I’m actually kinda sick of seeing articles every week about romance readers and their habits like can we just leave it alone now?

Every single week The Cut comes out with the most generic ass article where they think they’re uncovering truths or doing “deep dives” and it’s just someone with a booksta account
