Shopify is building the foundation for agentic commerce.
Universal Commerce Protocol, which we co-developed with Google, is now live. UCP will make it faster for agents and retailers to integrate.
It’s open by default, so platforms and agents can use UCP to start transacting with any merchant. Major retailers are already using it.
Agents can handle everything from discovery to fulfillment, and support things like discounts, subscriptions, and loyalty programs. We’ve accounted for all types of commerce.

Agents will become a common way people shop. So today we are releasing 3 tools to make adding commerce to those agents trivial:
- Checkout Kit: embed commerce widgets and checkout(!) directly into your agent and chat. This is already being used by Microsoft’s @Copilot.
- Shopify Catalog: low latency global product search across millions of merchants
- Universal Cart: shop from any store, anywhere, in one cart
With these, you can build seamless embedded commerce experiences quickly, starting with all the best products by the best merchants in the world instead of having to sign them all up individually. No need to build a complex new checkout, or dealing with regulatory marketplace rules. Commerce just plugs in and feels seamless in conversations.
We believe commerce should be everywhere people are, so we’re making that as easy as possible for the AI age.
Always impressed by my younger sister & proud of what she’s doing in EdTech
This year for #CSEdWeek, I stretched my ambitions and built an LED house with a Micro:bit! 🎄💡It was so fun and rewarding to design and build. I created a video to inspire fellow educators—check it out here: youtu.be/YpC46Yc4148
Ngl, this is the most fun bit of software I've played with in a long time: app.suno.ai/song/b3697a28-7a…
Suno.ai is the craziest, most magical thing on the internet right now. How is not everyone talking about this
Just our planetary scale Checkout doing the thing again worldwide 🌎 @SphereVegas

I'm super impressed with the level of engineering that went into bringing this to life, so I sat down with @maca_graphics to learn more 👇

Black Friday has ARRIVED & kicked off with a bang! Here’s what we are seeing on @Shopify so far:
- Peak sales per minute globally on US Thanksgiving hit $1.6M
- Avg cart price is $119.30
- Shopping small is still big
There is a lot to be optimistic about right now in retail.
Very cool to see external data prove what we’ve been building and optimizing in Checkout for years.
And all that before we’ve even mentioned “most scalable” 😎
Shopify is the best-converting platform in the 🌎. Period. And… we can prove it.
Today, we're sharing results from a Big Three global management consulting firm, and the data speaks for itself: "Shopify converts up to 36% better than the competition and 15% more on average"
Not building with Shopify is now a competitive liability.

Retweeting Scott's story thread on my own tweet because the Flash history he tells was such a critical part of the journey to launch. The road to 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘺 host planetary scale merchants was a long one, and owes to hundreds of bright minds across the organization.
Killer to see the payoff for years of engineering
Smoothest Checkout in the world now proven on Shopify for the world's largest flash-seller 🏔️
In other news, SUPREME SS23 started off well. The @Shopify experience was so well done. Surprisingly so.
- single page checkout
- momentary queue
- worked with a variety of card types
- super fast processing
extra love on the queue handling, there is some magic there <3

First 2 wks of 2023 at @Shopify:
1. Launched our enterprise offering Commerce Components by Shopify
2. Released a brand new shopify.com site
3. Removed ALL recurring mtgs of 3+ people - deleting ~10k calendar invites, saving ~76,500 hrs of mtgs
4. Brought over Supreme
Finally public. And ran smooth as butter 🧈
It's been a thrill driving this launch forward with hundreds of brilliant minds @ShopifyEng building the world's best-converting high-throughput checkout platform. Officially backing the world's largest OG Flash-seller 🚀 More to come!
Fun fact: 2 years ago at a Shopify Town Hall [company all-hands] someone asked me what was one company I hoped to bring on board.
My answer was Supreme.
Today's the day. The biggest flash sale retailer & most epic streetwear brand has joined us.
Welcome to @Shopify Supreme👊

Praying I never again occupy a job where a weekly sprint requires pre-planning, grooming, story pointing, planning, and a retro. Agile is insanity. Never before has there been so much work to do work. Note: I haven’t worked since February and it still gives me nightmares.
🎉 We just #opensource'd github.com/Shopify/goqueuesi… in time for my talk @strangeloop_stl this morning!
Check it out if you've ever been interested to simulate user queueing strategies with configurable client behaviours
How does Shopify handle Flashsale traffic bursts up to 5x our baseline arriving in the span of a second? ⚡️
Our unique, stateful, and fair approach to user queueing will be discussed at Strange Loop 2022 today by @martelogan

Sharing this a bit last-minute but looking forward to speaking @strangeloop_stl on Saturday to dive deep on High-Throughput Fair-Queueing. This is one of my favorite topics in the last 3 years building Flash solutions @ShopifyEng & I'm eager to publicize what we've learned 😀📚
