I would not be surprised if the current @Reddit outage was caused by the blackout protest from some of the larger subreddits. I could see the balancing/indexing of those subreddits being fairly bespoke, and now that they’re private it’s wrecking havoc on feed generation/caching

The reason Shopify can handle sales like this is the result of years of building up their systems and learning many painful lessons. A brief thread…
Killer to see the payoff for years of engineering Smoothest Checkout in the world now proven on Shopify for the world's largest flash-seller 🏔️

I had to take time off when another merchant’s sale was botted so heavily that it took an entire Shopify region down and we had to figure out (within a few hours) how to allow them to have their sale without causing another massive disruption.

Shopify makes this all look easy but it’s not. The reason the flash platform is so good today because of years of great engineering work by some very smart people, working under a ton of pressure to make commerce better for everyone ™ /fin

A testament to quality software systems: I have been running @UnraidOfficial 5.0.4 on my home NAS for the past 9 years without having to do anything other than replace the occasional failing drive. And the array itself was created in 2008!

Just received an @AranetIoT CO2 monitor to replace a @getawair glow (which had been working perfectly fine but is now effectively bricked after they decided to end support) …

Initial thoughts: 1. Simple set up. Put in batteries (included) and it works. Battery life measured in years(!) 2. Very clean design, clear e-ink screen. Updates every few minutes 3. No internet connectivity 🥰. *optional* app that uses Bluetooth for extra config & rt metrics.

4. Small and portable. Can easily be taken anywhere. What a great device. Does what it’s supposed to do, simply and effectively without all the garbage that plagues most of these types of things
