LLMs are good at finding exploits and bad at system design, which captures their general strengths/weaknesses: good at relentless repetition of bounded tasks; bad at holistic understanding. Good at producing working code (including exploits); bad at knowing what is "good".

"Why does it matter?"
Because cognitive complexity sets the ceiling for what you can do, whether "you" is human or not. You have limited attention and capacity for context, whether those are attention heads and context tokens or just regular attention and memory in your meat.

It's so surreal to contrast actual agent output with the things that I see people say about them here. In everyday changes, my reviews often cut the diff to 25% of its original size. Tons of useless tests; paranoia; inverted logic. Then I read Twitter and "coding is solved".

I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

Having to both enable vibe code as well as validate and own others output (without any of the credit) is tough work

"Why would you want to read and write code?"
because I like programming the computer, that's why I do it

It's not misery. You look at the code, you tell it what to change. Cycles are quick. You can be very terse, often just a few words. You can queue arbitrarily many prompts while it's working. Currently I think of it like an abstract text editor, not a human I give instructions to.

I'm an old programmer (by programmer standards). I use agents daily, extensively. Here's a view from the other side of "wooooow look how many lines it wrote!", taken from my work today.

With all these AI coding improvements why isn't the software I use everyday getting better?

OMG I got my first Stripe transaction!
Today I woke up and I saw the first subscription to invoicebloom.io! I feel like I just won the lottery, like if this was 100k or something!
I built a bunch of projects before that got nowhere!
