WOW @billackman has lost the plot entirely. His latest screed is classic Republican fare against immigration, welfare and taxing the rich. It's class warfare from the top with some concerns about antisemitism, presumably for the privileged few. What's revealing is that he has no concerns about racism or sexism "destroying a country"--and he actually attacks Islam, undermining the religious freedoms on which this country was built and on which it thrives.

Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.
Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is.
I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately.
The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.
The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.

I was raised Muslim in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, but am an atheist (wrote a whole book about it - in bio), and I still get this question all the time. And increasingly, I find that people like @AbdulElSayed understand and revere the principles of secularism and the US Constitution much more than Christian nationalists like Tommy in this video.
Remember — “secular” is not the opposite of “religious” — secularism is simply the separation of religion and state, which in effect PROTECTS freedom OF religion AND freedom FROM religion. The opposite of secularism is enforced religion, ala Iran or the dreams of Mike Johnson.
Weird world where American Muslims like Mamdani and El-Sayed are touting reproductive choice for women and LGBT rights at Pride parades and pushing for universal healthcare, while White Christian conservatives are rolling back women’s rights, demonizing gay people, banning books, and accepting luxury jets from Qatar — all of which is much more aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood that El-Sayed clearly disavows here.
If I were choosing the truly secular candidate aligned with Enlightenment values, it would be El-Sayed every time over the regressive and backward right wingers of today who have inexplicably developed a fetish for theocracy. Read the work of @AndrewLSeidel and @SethAndrewsTTA to understand what’s really going on here.
