banks should be the first to use @proofofhuman. we're not ready for agents to transact on their own
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

When we started working on @proofofhuman last year human verification was still a relatively niche problem. Things are changing fast!

Our bot detection benchmark reached the front page of Hacker News (@hackernews) yesterday! 🚀
We tested five leading bot detection systems against modern AI agents, including CloakBrowser, Chromium, Grok, and Perplexity.
Proof of Human accurately detected between 95–100% across all five adversaries, with most alternatives specifically struggling against AI-native browsers.
We're excited to contribute open research to this problem -- and grateful to the Hacker News community for the discussion!

One of the most important problems in the agentic ai era!
What began as an effort to build better infrastructure for online surveys and data collection has grown into something larger.
Today, we're officially launching Proof of Human on @ycombinator.
Our new name reflects our mission: to preserve human trust on the internet in the age of AI.
As AI becomes increasingly capable, knowing whether there's a real human on the other side is becoming fundamental infrastructure.
If you're working on a difficult human verification problem, we'd love to hear from you.
Welcome to the Proof of Human era.

We're excited to officially launch our rebrand to Proof of Human.
If you can't tell who's human, the incentive for many online interactions and transactions goes to zero. Proof-of-human technology will therefore become foundational infrastructure as the AI revolution continues.
I've spent the last year looking at thousands of human and AI behavioral traces and obsessively improving our models. If human identity is an important part of your product I'd love to talk!

AI agents have gotten much better at solving CAPTCHAs, but they behave in increasingly non-human ways. I expect this trend to largely continue!
How successful is Proof of Human at bot detection?
A year ago, we evaluated five leading bot detection systems against automated browsers programmed to complete a set of predefined tasks. Since then, browser automation has advanced considerably. Modern AI agents can interpret webpages, plan actions, and interact with interfaces through increasingly capable browser environments.
In our latest research, we revisited our bot detection benchmark with stealth browsers and modern AI agents.
What did we find?
Proof of Human identified 99% of automated sessions, followed by reCAPTCHA v3 at 69.4%, hCaptcha at 44.3%, Cloudflare Turnstile at 42.1%, and Cloudflare Bot Management at 9.1%.

Everyone is excited about recursive *self* improvement (RSI) but human progress is social and driven by cumulative culture. Individuals stand on the shoulders of past giants. Our new paper tests whether LLM swarms benefit from an alternative RSI: recursive *social* improvement.
LLM agents are evolving their own skills and working together in swarms. But how well do they learn from each other?
Our new paper on Recursive Social Improvement finds that copying peers’ discoveries can come at the expense of exploration! 🧵
