For what its worth, I believe all things can be true. Rene is love, charismatic motivator, brilliant communicator, masterful fundraiser, obsessive believer in people, generous supporter, unapologetic optimist, stubborn leader, mismanager of money, out-of-touch world builder, deceptive manipulator, irresponsible founder, and is now deeply hurting and incapacitated from strokes that have humbled him completely. An artist to be sure, Artizen as his canvas. Not a business with guarantees, an art project with a soul that has ended in tragedy. Infuriating.

Tough how compelling Rene's content was, for so long. Weekly multi-hour Artizen showcases for years. A beautiful 30 minute Artizen 20 year overnight success dramatic reading pinned on his since deleted account (for stroke reasons, allegedly). Engaging IRL presentations and pitches. Usurping the image and energy of so many well meaning, smart, and wealthy people, including his own. Tough to believe it was all scam artizenry. In hindsight may have been too perfect. Out of disbelief, I'm still on the side of mismanagement and panic. But a big tragic lie is on the table.

After a few weeks of nervous limbo having suffered a stroke, Rene announced this morning that @Artizen is shutting down while still being in debt to several creators on the platform. I'm sending him love and urge the universe to nurture him back to full health, but this doesn't excuse the malpractice now surfacing that may have been ongoing for a while. I've spent the past year helping Rene craft, secure, and advocate for the ART revnet token meant to consume the Artizen endowment funds over time, giving the community auditable, programmatic, growth-oriented guarantees. Only $140k made it into the revnet to issue and back the value of ART. The rest of the alleged $30m+ remained in Rene's control offchain to deploy as the onchain format proved effective enough for us to trust. The revnet funds are now the only money ART holders can count on, a fraction of what they were promised. Our plan was to move all of Artizen's financial ops to Juicebox-based projects for stronger onchain accounting over the next several seasons. Rene assured me that our values here were aligned, and I believed him. Instead, projects continue to wait for their own money back, with no idea what might happen next. I feel my integrity, my name, and the brand of the tools I build have been taken advantage of, and I'm sorry for those that gained confidence in Artizen today because of the trajectory we were working towards. The unfortunate truth seems to be that the driver of most folks' confidence in Artizen was never the nature of the accounting, it was Rene. He no doubt gave a ton of his lifeforce to the success of Artizen. He lived Artizen, encouraged everyone, and gave the community only reasons to believe him and believe in him. No one was motivated to stop and ask who else had keys in case of unfortunate events, or if the keys had access to the endowment funds being reported and actively committed to people, or if the money people were adding to the platform in return for match funds were being kept safe. Rene's track record gave us no reason to have these as concerns, and to ask would risk being unpleasant in an otherwise supportive environment. Even having asked in private, the responses were always eloquent and reassuring. Now, it seems the emperor not only has been caught wearing no clothes but is also suffering a health crisis. It's all unpleasant for everyone. All we're left with is the accounting, or lack there of. Infuriating.
