The iPhone Duo needs more than a successful build. In this video, I show how I adapt SwiftUI toolbars and layouts for its changing poses, fold, and hinge. youtu.be/bH5JdHgGW3o

I just lost my job, totally blindsided 🙁
I've been developing iOS since 2012, and now I've been deep into agentic Engineering, especially this year. My family situation requires me to work remotely. I live in Utah, USA. Please spread the word 🙏🏽 Any help? 🩷

Didn’t get my Duo yet but look at this beauty by @matthewskiles
Are you using TabView as root navigation component in your app? Then you need only 2 lines of code to adopt it to iPhone Duo folded and unfolded states. #swiftui

Another technique that we might need to use in our apps is dynamic layout switching using AnyLayout type. For example, it might be useful while transitioning from the folded to the unfolded state on iPhone Duo.

Most iPhone Duo reviews mention that the software still needs some work. If you’re rocking an Apple Watch with iPhone Duo, give Cardiobot a try—it’s been ready from day one!

With .paging scroll behavior in SwiftUI, the default spacing of an HStack or LazyHStack can make full-width pages drift further out of alignment with each swipe. Setting the stack spacing to zero keeps every page lined up.
I wrote a short post about it:

One of my favorite things about Swift is how its type system encourages better code.
Prefer structs for value semantics.
Use enums to model mutually exclusive states.
Let optionals make missing values explicit.

We encounter bugs that are very hard to catch in the debugger from time to time. For example, it might occur only after a few days of app usage. Logging is an excellent technique to track and understand user actions through the app.

Did you know that we can change the default presentation placement of sheets since iOS 27 and iPadOS 27?
It’s easy to do, and besides iPad, it can also work on iPhone in landscape mode.
You can read all about it in my new quick tutorial!

iPhone Duo became the first folding iPhone providing us with two displays of different sizes and aspect ratios. This week, we will talk about adapting our apps to different screen sizes using simple techniques that Apple UI frameworks provide us.

I usually set up three build configurations for every project: Debug, TestFlight, and App Store. They vary in both settings and features. I’ve been adding feature flags so new work shows up in Debug and TestFlight builds, but not in the production builds.

Toolbars play a crucial role, especially with the recent update to the design language where we have a content layer and the UI controls layer above it, or even with iPhone Duo providing vertical bars.

SwiftUI’s .task modifier provides a clean and efficient way to manage asynchronous operations within the view lifecycle. It handles task cancellation, reacting to value changes, and easily implements debouncing using structured concurrency.

I choose to code by hand today, here’s what happened:
First hour felt terrible, barely remembering anything, looking up almost everything.
Second hour it became a little smoother, I was writing more code without looking up.
Third hour, magic happens… muscle memory kicked in, I got into flow state, spitting code block after code block like it was 2024 again.
It was one of the most joyful moments I had in a long time.
The work I produce in 3 hours would probably take Claude 15 minutes or so, but man, it felt good. I mean REALLY good.

if you want to make a really good iOS app, just buy the Duo as the testing device!
i've been testing Tasks on all orientations of the Duo and don't even have to launch the iPhone/iPad simulator separately anymore!
