The Citizens United disaster, in a nutshell: In 2008, before the ruling, billionaires contributed $31 million to federal campaigns. In 2020, billionaires contributed $1.2 billion. That’s a 40-fold increase. It never had to be like this.

Here's the account from a New Orleans doctor, who was told by her hospital's lawyer she couldn't perform a D&E on a 16-weeks-pregnant woman whose water broke. Instead, she went through a "painful, hours-long labor to deliver a nonviable fetus, despite her wishes"

This happened in FEBRUARY. A mass shooting was averted and he could only be charged with a misdemeanor. We didn't even find out about it till July. We NEED Red Flag Laws and alert systems!
“I expected to get shot.” @HoustonPolice Sgt. Kendrick Simpo told me how he tackled a man with an assault rifle & 120 live rounds at @HoustonGalleria earlier this year. The man was sentenced this week. Simpo is a hero. #abc13 abc13.com/houston-crime-poss…

A friend who lives on the east coast asked me if the threat to the Great Salt Lake was as serious as the media has made it sound. This thread was my response: The threat to the Great Salt Lake is very real. 1/

As a historian, just fascinating to see how entrenched the myth is that FDR’s SCOTUS reform bill (smeared as “court packing”) was “overreach”, a “failure”, “shot down”. People don’t know that it ended in success for the New Deal and FDR, who never had to worry about SCOTUS again!

I will repeat this as long as I have to, when the Supreme Court said in 1937 that the Social Security Act was “unconstitutional”, FDR didn’t ask people to vote harder in the next election, he told the Court he’d add more justices until they backed off, which they did.

While writing a history of concentration camps, a key thing I learned about the collapse of democracy and the rise of authoritarianism is that it's critical for citizens not to accept the lesson of learned helplessness that ruling institutions try to instill.

If you are recommending voting, pls compare maps showing voter suppression vs. maps showing abortion bans. (Sources: NYT, Guardian)

Here's a supercut of FIVE #SCOTUS justices lying during confirmation hearings about thier positions on #RoeVsWade - Thanks @AymanM for putting it out there clear as day
If any one should be investigated in connection to the Roe v. Wade leak its the 5 Justices who under oath lied to secure jobs and said Roe was settled law of the land and that Americans have a right to privacy to secure.

Pre-Roe, I was 8 yrs old. I came home from school to find my Mom lying in a puddle of blood. She was weak & asked me to call a neighbor. She was miscarrying, but the embryo would not abort. For 48 hours, she bled while doctors transfused blood, waiting. Abortions were illegal.
