This is meeeeee!
Meet Mel, our Research Lead 🤓 Mel's a geochemist whose research focuses on how physical and chemical weathering processes remove CO2 from the atmosphere. @mel_murphy01 is leading our research program as we test and up-scale enhanced #weathering at our sites at Glenaros.🙌🌏

🧊 ❄️ 🇬🇱Hej permafrostee tweeps (esp those working in Greenland) - anyone interested in doing some research on deep groundwater boreholes drilled under the GrIS?? Seems a shame if they get decommissioned 🧊❄️ 🇬🇱 #glacier #permafrost

So you want to know what's going on with climate change, but AR6 WGII is a whopping 3,675 pages. How do you read an #ipcc report? Five easy steps:

Another F for the Arctic in the 2021 @NOAA report card. Rain (yes, wet precipitation!) on the middle of the Greenland ice sheet 🌧 massive wildfires 🔥 permafrost degradation, damage to communities 🏠 dramatic effects to ecosystems and wildlife 🌱 🦠 🐂 🐻‍❄️ 🐳
2021 @NOAA Arctic Report Card is out! arctic.noaa.gov/report-card/… ❄️ Cascading disruptions ❄️ Intensifying hydrologic cycles 💧 ❄️ Extreme events and variability 🌡️ ❄️ + Learning from Arctic Native Peoples: community, collaboration, resilience for 💚 youtu.be/_WbWjLUTvZM

Looking forward to the #12GagesOfChristmas
'Tis the season to celebrate #Idaho's @USGS streamgages and hydrologic technicians with the #12GagesOfChristmas. Follow the hashtag and follow the fun as we kick it off tomorrow.

Crazy to think about how much water a single glacial lake outburst flood can release in a single go… #GLOF #jökulhlaup
Water volume released in a jökulhlaup from Grímsvötn volcano over the last few days, with Reykjavik city for comparison. The sphere is 1240 m in diameter and holds 1 billion litres (400,000 Olympic pools). Infographic by @Vedurstofan

Tomorrow’s @NORDBiGS seminar on assessing the ecological impact of extreme weather on coastal biogeochemical functioning using satellite observations is going to be great. See you there? 🛰
You ready for a mouthful of saltwater? 🌊 This week @KMAttard will entertain us with tales from the 7 oceans ⛵️ The oceans are equally or even more important than the terrestrial ecosystems for the Earth system 🌎 Karl speaks it's language. Join!🐳 nordbigs.wordpress.com/autum…

COP26 or FLOP26?

Did you know that the oldest living organism on Earth might be a microorganism in #permafrost? Actually frozen permafrost is full of life, but what happens to it, when this permafrost thaws? Let's discover it in the latest @EGU_CR post by @Maria_Scheel_! blogs.egu.eu/divisions/cr/20…

Do you know artificial glaciers? They are glaciers influenced by human interventions to improve their condition and lengthen their existence for economic purposes. Are they sustainable? Surely not! Let's discover them in this @EGU_CR post by @g_baccolo! blogs.egu.eu/divisions/cr/20…
Glaciers, there are few places on earth where you can witness such dramatic transformations in the landscape over such a short period of time. Ice caves form in glaciers from running water and overnight can change into an ice bridge that will collapse overnight and leave no trace
