I would like to hereby officially invite @DemSocialists to stop fucking with my city’s mayoral election in a way that can literally ONLY boost our police state absentee mayor’s reelection chances the week before Election Day.
It is insane that this national org swoops in ONE WEEK before our incredibly heavily contested mayoral election to loudly wage a rules fight! Why is DSA National not doing anything to the DSA-LA elected city councilmembers who’ve endorsed & campaigned for Karen Bass?!?

I do really think some folks don't see politics as something to engage in to distribute power to people but instead reassure themselves of their own moral supremacy. This is a bad way to engage in the world and sets you up to fail over and over again.

4 million+ Palestinians live under Israeli sovereignty and cannot vote. That some demographically manageable percent are permitted to vote in Israel proper does not change the reality of apartheid. hrw.org/report/2021/04/27/th…

The best time to litigate all this is DEFINITELY one week before my city’s mayoral election
Maybe if the branch did their job right and vetted their endorsements

I think she will rep DSA well and it’s part of our job as the chapter to push her and organize her when she needs to be pushed and organized, but it gets a lot harder and worse when the NPC engages in an obviously factional witch hunt because they thing it’s a stepping stone
I'm skeptical of Raman's instincts around Palestine and I don't think she was good enough on it in 23-24 but I think that she's been unambiguously compliant with Resolution 22 since starting her mayoral campaign. She's a social democrat but a fairly good one.

Y’all understand that nobody’s gonna DIS-associate Nithya with DSA at this point, right? Even if DSA National and DSA-LA completely expel her. It’s not going to stop her from being automatically associated with DSA immediately. That die is cast, unfortunately.

I’m sure your candidacy will be very successful, well organized, and real. Anyway, we’re talking about an actual election IRL with giant stakes for all working people in Los Angeles. Litigate your social club’s rules elsewhere and on your own time. Simple as.
Actually socialist candidates would look positively at efforts to stop capitalist candidates from siphoning org resources & watering down what socialism is for the sake of Democratic Party entryism. If I’m running, I don’t want the endorsement of an org that endorses capitalists.

it has clearly progressed to being retaliatory score-settling. we have tried to act in good faith with national and for our efforts we have gotten ratfucked from every angle so I think it would be crazy for the NPC to continue this shit
i have been a nithya skeptic for years. i do not think she should be a DSA candidate- she does not push the envelope for socialism. But she was endorsed by 2/3rds of her chapter, and she has now responded to DSA pressure and moved her position to be compliant with BDS.

Nithya Raman literally has now in multiple venues said she will support BDS. But that doesn’t matter, I guess. The priority now is obviously to wreck any chances of anyone more progressive than RICK CARUSO becoming the mayor of Los Angeles.

If DSA National is this eager to wage its sectarian public rules fights this publicly, in a way that can ONLY directly undermine the chapter’s electoral efforts as people are voting… Why would ANY candidates, anywhere, affiliate with this organization in the electoral sphere?
1) As should have been obvious: this debate itself (outcome aside) is affecting how ppl see DSA 2) If DSA national has no problem glibly, negatively impacting a race like this (affecting 4 million real ppl) why would any politician / potential member trust or desire involvement?

hey could everyone just claim victory for moving nithya after her last statement and move on rather than kamikaze-ing national and LA’s relationship into the side of a mountain for no reason right before election day

The Democratic Party may be a slimy mess but I can’t imagine a world in which the national party would be moving, a week before the election, to overturn a local endorsement & potentially punish a chapter over something like this.
DSA's National Political Committee is planning to meet tonight to discuss whether to unendorse and/or expel Nithya Raman, a DSA member and Los Angeles mayoral candidate endorsed by the socialist org's Los Angeles chapter.

It’s actually insane to say in your IPO filing that if the law applies to you all of your prospective shareholders will suffer.
Replying to @matthewstoller
The most important risk factor for Anthropic is the rule of law actually being applied. "Any determination that we are liable under such theories, or any judicial or regulatory expansion of tort, product liability, or consumer protection law, or criminal liability, as applied to AI models, could result in significant liability and require us to change how we design and offer our models, platform, and applications."

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions tonight regarding Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, setting up processes to potentially force DSA's Los Angeles chapter to rescind its endorsement of her campaign and/or expel her from DSA. Here are copies of the 2 resolutions that passed: Rescinding endorsement: docs.google.com/document/d/1… Expulsion: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Oh, is it not against the cute fun rules for DSA electeds to campaign to reelect a police state liberal who’s acted as a secretary to our city’s landlords? Sounds like your national rules AND your local chapter are brutally inadequate! But deal with that shit elsewhere please.

The ICJ found Israel's occupation unlawful. It must end. Until then, under int'l law, Palestinians have the right to resist it through lawful means. Israel shall protect its youth by ending the colonial project that traps many of them in committing atrocity crimes.
A war is coming to the West Bank Yesterday Palestinian resistance fighters conducted a surgical strike against Israeli occupation soldiers, fully in accordance with international law. In response, Israeli government immediately announced that they will do war crimes and started doing war crimes. All the Palestinian villages in the West Bank are under siege, the city of Hebron is under siege. IDF is demolishing house after house, raiding family after family. They said they want to turn Hebron into Rafah. More than 250 families were kicked out into the streets with nothing. People slept on the street last night. The Israeli election is in 3 days, and the Netanyahu-Smotrich government is going to use this to start a war in the West Bank. The only way to stop this is pressure from all directions. We know it works. International pressure worked for the besieged house in Qusra, which still belongs to the Palestinians because of the all-around attention. It can work for Hebron too. But it will require EVERYONE reading this doing everything they can to stop this. Call your representative, hold a demonstration, organise direct action against the occupation’s assets abroad. Keep attention on the West Bank. ACT NOW.

watching this unfettered racism be essentially ignored because it's against a muslim progressive woman is really disheartening. the energy with which the democratic machine can work to criticize hasan or abdul, but remain quiet in defense of ilhan omar... fuck.
Happening Now: Provocateur Jake Lang has just arrived outside the Ilhan Omar & Hasan Piker event in Minneapolis.

Thank god we can find and intercept lost hikers as they mistakenly run away from rescue in dense forest!
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks. By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time. Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

Watch this. Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion “Zionism is racism”, spells out the central obscenity of our age – the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists. “We as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people… our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death … And to have to sit here … and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.” /1
