I don’t think Europeans fully appreciate what is happening to the European Union right now. The EU is under an extraordinary, multi-front assault, both from outside and from within. And I struggle to think of another period in its history when so many powerful actors had an interest in weakening it simultaneously. Russia has spent years waging hybrid warfare against Europe. Weaponised migration, sabotage, cyberattacks, coordinated disinformation campaigns, bot networks and political interference. The objective is clear: undermine trust in democratic institutions, deepen social divisions and weaken European unity. China has different motivations, primarily economic and geopolitical. A fragmented Europe is easier to pressure, easier to negotiate with individually and less capable of defending its economic interests. And then there is the United States. Perhaps the most disturbing development of all. Under Trump and MAGA, a country that helped rebuild the old continent and then spent decades supporting European integration now has an administration openly hostile to much of what the EU represents. Its own National Security Strategy even calls for cultivating resistance to Europe’s current political direction. Think about that for a moment. Meanwhile, within Europe, parts of the far right and far left amplify these divisions, whether through ideological alignment, political opportunism or outright sympathy for authoritarian regimes. This doesn’t mean Russia, China and MAGA are all following some jointly coordinated master plan. They don’t have to. Their interests increasingly overlap, and Europe’s internal divisions make their work considerably easier. What makes this particularly alarming is what is actually at stake. For all its flaws, the EU remains one of the world’s most consequential projects built around liberal democracy, the rule of law, individual freedoms and cooperation between nations. At a time when authoritarianism is gaining ground and even longstanding democracies are showing disturbing tendencies, that matters enormously. Europe is far from perfect. Its bureaucracy, indecision and inability to act decisively are real problems. But the answer cannot be to retreat into 27 competing nation-states, each too small to meaningfully influence a world increasingly dominated by continental powers. Quite the opposite. Europe needs deeper integration, stronger common institutions, genuine strategic autonomy and the political courage to defend its interests and values. Because fragmentation is precisely what so many external actors want. And perhaps that’s the central irony of our time: people are being deliberately manipulated into believing that the reverse is true — that national identity and sovereignty can only be protected by weakening European cooperation. In reality, a divided Europe is less sovereign, less secure and far easier for outside powers to pressure. Therefore the very thing that will make Europe stronger is the thing its adversaries are working hardest to prevent. A united Europe is a geopolitical power. A divided Europe is a collection of countries waiting to be played against one another.

Seht her, ohne uns regiert hier niemand.

Germany is a sleeping giant of physical AI everyone's been writing Germany off in the AI race because there's no German OpenAI and no big data center story. but theres actually two AI races happening: the first is software. chatbots, LLMs, data centers. US/China are winning that, not even close. the second one is physical. robots that pick up boxes, weld cars, carry groceries, stack pallets. and on this one Germany is one of the top contenders in the world this stat might convince you (it convinced me): Germany is 3rd in the world for robots per factory workers (449 robots per 10,000 human workers). only South Korea (1,220) and Singapore (818) are ahead. Japan is behind at 446. the US is all the way back at 307. so Germany already runs more of its economy on robots than almost anywhere else on earth. and the German companies building this next wave of physical AI are some global heavyweights. a few worth knowing... > Neura Robotics in Metzingen is building humanoid robots and raising €1B from Tether at a €4B valuation (this was March 2026). Volvo already in from an earlier round. > Sereact in Stuttgart raised $110M in April 2026 to build the software brain that lets robots see and grab things. already runs 1 billion+ real-world picks for BMW, Mercedes, and Daimler Truck. > Agile Robots in Munich was the worlds first robotics unicorn. revenue doubling yearly, around €200M now, heading for €1B. >RobCo in Munich raised $100M in early 2026 at a ~$500M valuation. their robots learn new tasks by watching a worker do it once instead of getting programmed line by line. already pushing into the US and aimed at the small and mid-size factories that make up most of german industry. > Fraunhofer (Germany's network of 76 applied research labs) built the evoBOT in the video below. self-balancing, two arms, carries 100kg of cargo, being tested at Munich Airport right now. but why is Germany specifically well positioned for physical AI though? three things stack on top of each other. first, the factories. Germany has thousands of family-owned precision manufacturing shops that have been logging sensor data for decades. that data is basically the training fuel for physical AI and almost nobody else has it at this depth. second, the customers are already there in-country. VW, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Bosch, Siemens. a robotics startup in Stuttgart can ship its first commercial deployment to a brand everyone recognizes in year one. that's why Sereact's customer list reads like a german car show lol. third, the engineer pipeline. Fraunhofer spins out companies like Agile Robots straight from its labs. KUKA built the first 6-axis electromechanical robot arm back in 1973. they've been doing this for 50 years. so the chatbot race is mostly settled and Germany lost spectacularly but the robot race is still early innings. and i think Germany's well positioned
This is evoBOT, a robot helper developed by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics. It can grasp and carry goods to support cargo workers in transporting packages. evoBOT can also move smoothly across uneven terrain, including bumpy surfaces and sloping ground.

We trust pilots to fly us. We trust taxi drivers to drive us. We trust influencers selling detox recipes. But when scientists speak about vaccines, chemistry or pesticides, suddenly people reject expertise and think their internet search is equivalent to 20 years of research.

The chaos in the world is a direct consequence of the Russian attack on Ukraine, said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. "The explosive situation in the Middle East and drones in the skies over Cyprus are not separate conflicts, but a direct result of the destruction of international law. It all started in Ukraine, when Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, cynically violated the borders of a neighboring country and signaled to the entire world that the rules no longer apply," Meloni remarked in an interview with Tg5. The war in Europe is already underway, and to consider these events "distant" is a dangerous illusion. Without restoring the rule of law, which has been destroyed in Ukraine, the chaos will only worsen, she added. Ukraine Now

👇 @philipp__amthor @guenterkrings @alexander_throm @thorsten_frei @NancyFaeser @ProAsyl @DezimInstitut @nicolange_
