women can make a calculated choice to be fascist without needing to be held hostage by fascist men or suffering from some sudden mental break. we don’t need to do this damselification and infantilization every time a woman, especially one in a position of power, shows herself as a collaborator. specifically, white women have historically benefited from this societal shield and the benevolent sexism-chivalry effect that bestows a naivety and harmlessness upon them.
I got burnt out and depressed and I just didn’t want to be in any kind of public for a while—that’s all, as much as I love this community.

The BBC pulled this episode from broadcast because of this exact line.
Patrick Stewart, who died today at 86, became Professor X and Captain Picard. As a boy, he watched his father beat his mother, and heard the doctors who came to help tell her it was her own fault.
In the video below, a woman thanks him for helping her survive her own abuse, and his answer brings the whole room to its feet.
He grew up in a poor mill town in England. His father came home from World War II a different man and turned his violence on Patrick's mother.
Every time the doctors and ambulance men came, they told her she must have provoked him, that it takes two to make an argument.
Decades later, Stewart learned from his father's war records that he had been suffering from severe shell shock that was never treated.
So he spent the rest of his life working for two charities: one for abused women, in his mother's name, and one for traumatized soldiers, in his father's.
He could have spent his life hating his father. Instead, he spent it helping others. Is that the kind of legacy that matters more than fame?

The ironic thing about the internet's obsession with "holding people accountable" is that it's created an environment where taking accountability hold zero benefit whatsoever.

The WASP method of torture is to subtly take away all your rights and pleasures in just enough of a plausibly deniable way (and just never admitting it outright) that when you finally crack they can point and say "see, I knew you were a bad apple deserving of punishment."

I have watched so many radical spaces be destroyed by petty, cruel people who weaponize minor transgressions for their own self interest. I suspect a big reason that the lesbian bar story is blowing up is because so many of us have and are just absolutely fed up with it.

I think that socialist/communist spaces really do suffer from letting radical liberals come into them and set the rules. Mass politics is an anathema to radlibs and individualist narcissism ends up being framed as somehow revolutionary when it is actual poison to movements.
You can’t make me jealous in a way that matters anymore, I learned this hack from my male coworkers: becoming emotionally unavailable
When I say you had to exist a certain way to keep your job in publishing, I mean talking EXACTLY like the hosts on the MSNOW interview

Shut the company down, remove all the cameras. Send every executive and lobbyist who wanted this to prison forever.
Hackers ripped a Flock camera off a pole, dumped what was stored on it, and handed the files to WIRED and 404 Media.
One camera. 21 days.
~50,000 vehicles. 1.6 million images. About 3,300 cars a day. Peak day: 4,454.
Flock sold this as “license plate readers” with on-device encryption. The software on that box wasn’t just reading plates. It was tagging vehicles, bikes, and people. Dozens of shots of a single car. Bumper stickers. Even an American flag patch on a motorcycle bag.
They put the encryption key on the camera. Then acted shocked when somebody opened it.
