Canadians have been played for suckers by the Liberals. Same old gang that drove Canada into the ditch this past decade is still in charge.

Headline is a bit torqued. He didn’t oppose it either. Here is Doerkson’s statement: “Our government’s focus is on the project in front of us. Pacific Link has been declared in the national interest, it takes a southern route, and it will create good jobs across British Columbia.” It’s a touchy issue and if I were them I would do some engagement and pulse taking too.

This obsession with the details of what a candidate may or may not have said is one reason why parties are finding it so difficult to attract candidates. The perfect candidate will have nothing on the record concerning their views on various religious groups., abortion, LBGTQ+, indigenous relations, etc. Especially pathetic since in today’s government, so-called backbenchers have basically no influence whatsoever. Prime Minister‘s and Premiers rule like modern monarchs.

Get your story straight.

🇨🇦Canadian Oil Is $28 Cheaper Than American. Who Collects The Difference? At $28 a barrel, US refiners collect about $75 million a day trom Canadian crude. The Canadian barrel still pays C$102, up 67% this year. This is roughly what an illustrative refinery makes from a barrel: •Gasoline: 37% •Diesel: 37% •Refinery fuel gas: 8% •Jet fuel: 5% •Petroleum coke: 4% •Asphalt: 4% •Residual fuel oil: 3% •Lubricants and chemical feedstock: 2% Canada exports about 4.5m barrels a day and refines under 2m. Most of the rest goes to US Midwest refiners, who buy it at the discount and sell the gasoline and diesel at war prices. The Canadian producer gets paid for the crude. The refiner gets paid for what it turns into. Who collects the difference is the subject of my latest article. Link👇 themerchantsnews.substack.co…

Can’t believe CBC’s At Issue is dissecting the Alberta referendum with a panel of Toronto Globe, Ottawa-based TorStar and Montreal voices with a guest B.C. radio guest and not even a token Albertan. No wonder they’re alienated.

Mark Carney said one thing to Ryan Jespersen and another when pressed by the parliamentary press gallery today on constitutional reform To Ryan Jespersen (Real Talk podcast, ~Oct 16): “Am I open to constitutional reform? Yes, I’m open to it… but I’m open to it with laying the groundwork for consensus. And part of the way you… lay groundwork for that is you build trust, you build on success, you move forward.” He also stated: “The constitution is not unamendable, to be clear.” The Toronto Star turned these remarks into the “Carney opens door to constitutional change” story ahead of the Alberta referendum To the parliamentary press gallery today: When a reporter followed up on the implication that he was open to constitutional change: “I’m sorry, you have no interest in having constitutional change? No, don’t. I didn’t say. That’s not what I said at all.” He then stressed that he favors “working now pragmatically to common solutions,” noted that constitutional change is difficult and long, and argued issues such as immigration should be handled through federal-provincial cooperation without opening the Constitution. He framed constitutional reform as something “we don’t start there” and that is “not necessary.” The flipPodcast (Alberta-focused audience): “Yes, I’m open to it.” Press gallery when directly asked what that means: “That’s not what I said at all,” followed by a clear preference for non-constitutional routes. Same Prime Minister, different rooms, different messages yet AGAIN! The “open to constitutional change” line that generated headlines gets walked back the moment the gallery presses him on it... then he rushes away @MarkJCarney

Just this morning, back in Ottawa, Carney shut down any talk of constitutional changes. This is contrary to what he said while in Alberta.
Prelim vote results suggest most Albertans don't support a status-quo relationship with Ottawa. Carney shouldn't have intervened with "no to the nine" before Albertans had their say; he now finds himself in a position where he needs to either stick to his pre-vote position in opposing powers for Alberta that are already granted to other provinces, or, having to back down and work cooperatively with Premier Smith on this as part of her refreshed mandate. #cdnpoli #abpoli

“I think the referendum, it can be a catalyst for discussion, not just in Alberta, but in all of Canada for sort of a middle ground, a path forward.” Dr. Ted Morton, a former Alberta cabinet minister, discusses Alberta's constitutional position within Confederation.
